Five Things You Need to Know in Sports

Want to start your sports day off right? Looking for some action and the most exciting matchups of the day? There are two days left in the baseball season. Here is a brief look at the top four important matchups of the day along with future odds.

1)Boston at NY Yankees, Jon Lester (9-14, 4.94 ERA) vs. David Phelps (4-4, 3.34 ERA)

This is the second game of a three-game series. Red Sox have been simply irrelevant this second half. They were no-shows in Baltimore, but their bats should show up in the Bronx. Lester gets to face 1B Mark Teixeira, who is back from injury and the Yankees should be close to 100% for the first time in weeks. Boston is 4-1-1 Over last 6 road games vs. a team with a winning record. The Yankees opened up as a -160 favorite with a total of 9.

2)Philadelphia at Washington, Tyler Cloud (2-2, 4.91 ERA) vs. Gio Gonzalez (21-8, 2.89 ERA)

Gonzalez might need this to get over the hump and win the Cy Young Award. He might have been the best pitching acquisition of the offseason, as the Nats gave up several key prospects to Oakland (Tommy Milone included) to get him. Washington is still pushing for the best record in the NL East a depending on Monday night, the division. Philly is 7-3 last 10 Tuesday games. No line at press time.

3)NY Mets at Miami, R.A. Dickey (20-6, 2.69 ERA) vs. Jacob Turner (1-4, 3.86 ERA)

Speaking of the Cy Young Award, here's another candidate in R.A. Dickey, who is having one of the great seasons for a knuckle ball pitcher. Dickey was 41-50 coming into this season. He faces a quality young pitcher in Jacob Turner, a former Tigers' prospect. This is a meaningless game for both teams for postseason, but not for the pitchers. Mets are 10-1 in Dickey's last 11 starts vs. Marlins. The Mets opened as a -145 favorite with a total of 7.

4)WNBA Playoffs continue with Atlanta at Indiana (NBATV) and Seattle at Minnesota

Seattle forced a Game 3 with Minnesota after a thrilling (yes thrilling) double-overtime win on Sunday. The Seattle Storm takes on the Minnesota Lynx (-10.5/147.5) at 9pm on ESPN2. The winner goes to the Western Conference finals. Minnesota is 16-1 at home so Sue Bird and company have an uphill battle. In other game at 7pmET, Indiana (-4/154) attempts to end the series at home against Angel McCoughtry and the Atlanta Dream.

5)Odds to Win 2012-13 BCS National Championship
