2004 golf wagers +985

Play # 1.
Scott Verplank -124 vs Fred Couples
Scott has played well at Shinnecock with a 15th in 1986 and a 21st in 1995. Scott has made the cut in 10 of last 12 Opens. Always among the driving accuracy leaders helps on a course that rewards accuracy over distance. As a native Texan, Scott is an outstanding wind player which could be a big factor on the links layout at Shinnecock.

As well as Fred has played lately,he has a played a lot which brings up concerns over his back holding up for another week. Fred did not play at Shinnecock in 1986 and missed the cut here in 1995.

I will add more plays to this thread later this week.

Play #2

Padraig Harrington +110 vs Sergio Garcia

As a rule the runner up in the tournament prior to the Open performs well in the Open. In recent memory 2 prior runners up have actually won the Open ( Pavin,Janzen ). For Sergio to win 2 in a row with one of them being the Open is asking a lot IMHO. It doesn't happen often. With padraig we have a previous week runner up,and an Irishman playing on a links golf course at Shinnecock. I like that. let's hope the wind blows.
