San Diego at San Jose State (+2, play to pick) - 5:30pm Pacific - Game #533-534
The Spartans look to be a live home dog in this spot. San Jose State was competitive with San Diego in two meetings last season. Both teams won on the home floor of the other. This year the Spartans look to be much improved under new head coach George Nessman who has received raved reviews from players, fans, and even Texas Tech head coach Bobby Knight. The Spartans have won two straight games by double digits. They beat Portland by 29 and followed that up with a solid 15 point road win at Cal Poly on Sunday. This is their home opener and they should get a decent sized turnout. While SJSU has shown marked improvement, the verdict is still out on the Toreros. They beat a bad Campbell team in their opener and were able to play close at UCSB in last game, but were out shot 46.9% to 37.1% and outrebounded 45 to 32 by the Gauchos. Some untimely UCSB turnovers and missed free throws kept the game closer than it should have been. This will be USD's third straight road game to start the season and I discussed in last write-up how inexperienced the Toreros are this year. A close game will favor the more experienced team playing at home and the +2 will certainly not hurt.

UCLA (+7, play to +6) vs Memphis - 6:30pm Pacific - Game #549-550
The Bruins look to be another live dog. I have been impressed with both of these squads but UCLA is a bit more seasoned as a "team" at this stage than Memphis who is relying more on true freshman newcomers. UCLA has the better backcourt combination with outstanding point guard Jordan Farmar and off guard Arron Afflalo who looks like he came over from an NBA game. I believe the Bruins are good enough to develop into a dark horse national title contender by season's end. They still are not 100% as sophomore wing Josh Ship and freshman center Alfred Aboya are currently out of the lineup with injuries, but they are still plenty good. UCLA has the quickness and athleticism to handle Memphis' new pressing style. Former starting point guard Cedric Bozeman now starts at forward and can provide extra ball handling help if needed. Ben Howland is in his third year here and this will easily be his best team. I rate these teams close to even right now and it would be no surprise to see UCLA win this game outright. Plus seven on a neutral court is too much to pass up. Take the points.

RAS Added Look: UCLA +7 1/2 UNIT

RAS Added Info (Information purposes only)

Wright State - Reserve guards Robert Eldridge (JC transfer) and Tyrone Scott (freshman) have been suspended until the end of November.

San Francisco - Forward Johnnie Dukes (foot) is out indefinitely. Dukes started one game and came off the bench early in the other. He had 5 points in just 2 minutes before the injury in last game.

Stanford - Senior F/C Matt Haryasz, the team's top inside player, missed loss to UC Irvine with an ankle injury and remains questionable Wednesday vs USF.

UCLA - Starting guard Jordan Farmar (ankle) and starting center Michael Fey (shoulder) both missed Saturday's game vs Delaware State but are expected to be in uniform Wednesday vs Memphis.

NBA: Denver Nuggets at Detroit Pistons - Under 186.5 -110
Game Date: 11/23/2005
Note: After a slow start, Coach George Karl has the Nuggets playing very good basketball as the Nuggets have now won 4 consecutive games including one we had last night with Denver controlling the boards and winning at Washington. The Nuggets lead the NBA in rebounds this year and that is one of the reasons why they are having much success as of late. The other reason is the D Karl stresses on a daily basis. Prior to the Wiz win the Nuggets have been on a D tear allowing 88, 86, 81, 83, and 91 in their 5 previous games. I do not have to tell you what the Pistons can do and already Detroit has the #7 D in the League. It is interesting to note a couple of things. Prior to Karl's arrival at Denver last year, these two teams played a 117-109 game back in one of the first games of the 2004/2005 season. Last January they played again and we saw 157 points scored. Actually these two teams have always played low scoring contests but the Piston D has been the reason. In the 5 previous matchups before last season Detroit allowed the Nuggets to score 75, 66, 53!!, 63!!, and 82. WOW! It is no wonder the last 6 of 7 between these 2 have gone UNDER. The Nuggets are 4-1 UNDER on the road this year and we suspect that number goes to 5-1. We also think they give the Pistons a run for their money.....

vegas experts tip of the day

Denver Nuggets at Detroit Pistons, Wednesday, November 21th, 7:30 P.M. EST EST

Denver has covered six straight but now has to face the World Champions after last night's win in Washington that went right to the wire. Detroit was blown out in its last, by Dallas at the end of a long road trip, but should be back in form tonight. DETROIT is 28-11 ATS after 2 consecutive non-conference games over the last 3 seasons, 24-11 ATS in home games after having won 3 of their last 4 games over the last 3 seasons and 13-3 ATS in home games after 3 straight games committing 11 or less turnovers since 1996.

The ramifications of this afternoon's match-up between the Broncos and Huskies got that much bigger with last night's OT win by Toledo over BG. The Huskies now have to win this game in order to represent the MAC West in the MAC Championship game. No doubt the Huskies will come into this game amped up after last week's impressive showing in the Glass Bowl, but the Western Michigan club they're about to lock horns with is by no means the same club they've lambasted the last few year's. This Broncos club has an excellent offense led by one of the up and coming star QB's in the conference; let alone the nation. Since taking over the offensive reigns, QB Tim Hiller has been nothing short of fantastic throwing for 20 TDs and only 3 INT's. The Broncos completely turned their season around once he got the starting nod, and they enter today's game with a four game winning streak. In fact, the Broncos have won 7 of their L/8 overall. These teams match-up very well against one another on both sides of the ball, and this would be an all out slugfest if the weather were to cooperate. That won't be the case, and the forecast calls for a cold, wet, and windy afternoon that would make it very hard for either of these teams to pull away from one another. WM has the advantage at the QB position with Hiller over the young Nicholson, and they have a superb back in Trovon Riley to match the impressive galloping of RB Wolfe. This is a game that will go back and forth, and with the now added pressure of having to win to move onto the Championship game, I really feel the Broncos have an excellent shot of playing the role of spoiler.

+3.0 (100) / 2 units NFL DETROIT LIONS +3 +100 (FOX - Thu., 11/24, 12:30 ET) – The Lions were crushed by Indianapolis on Thanksgiving last year, but they are 4-1 both SU and ATS in their last 5 Turkey Day games vs. NFC opponents. More importantly, Detroit actually has a better team this season than it has had in recent years, as the Lions are a spiffy 4-1 ATS here at home with the lone loss coming vs. the division-leading Bears. On the flip side, the Falcons have struggled in recent weeks as they enter this game on a two-game losing streak with both losses coming at home as a favorite. They have been a conference road favorite just once this season and they failed to cover on that occasion, barely getting by New Orleans 34-31 as six-point chalk.
