Weather to watch

Scattered thundershowers are in the forecast for most games on Wednesday. Here’s a few you watch:

White Sox at Red Sox – Meteorologists are calling for a 50 percent chance of rain.

Mets at Nationals – There’s a 50 percent chance of precipitation and it’ll feel like 101 degrees out there with the humidity.

Blue Jays at Yankees – The wind is expected to be blowing out to center field and the temperature will feel like triple-digit hot, thanks again to the humidity.

Who’s hot?

San Antonio Silver Stars – The Stars are 9-0 straight up and 8-1 against the spread over their last nine games. San Antonio visits Tulsa to play the Shock on Wednesday.

Toronto FC – The worst side in the MLS is on a respectable run. TFC is 3-1-4 in its last eight matches, including wins in its last two games. Toronto FC hosts Colorado on Wednesday.

Who’s not?

San Francisco Giants on the road – The Giants are 1-6 in their last seven road games heading into Tuesday’s matchup against the Braves. San Fran is also 1-6 in its last seven games against Atlanta.

Key stat

205 – Bunkers at Royal Lytham & St. Annes course, the location for this year’s British Open which begins Thursday. That’s the most bunkers in an Open Championship venue according to ESPN Stats & Info.

Injury that shouldn’t be overlooked

Jose Bautista, Toronto Blue Jays – The major league home run leader in 2010 and 2011 was put on the 15-day disabled listed with a wrist injury. Bautista was removed in eighth inning of Monday’s game against the Yankees after an awkward swing left the Blue Jay bopper clutching his left wrist. He has 27 homers this season and 65 RBIs.

Notable quotable

“It’s easier to win the National Championship than the SEC. Ask Nick Saban.”– South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier on his team’s SEC schedule this season. The Gamecocks play at Vandy, Kentucky, LSU and Florida, and host Missouri, Georgia, Arkansas and Tennessee. The LVH has South Carolina’s win total set at 8.5 (over +130).

Notes and tips

The Milwaukee Brewers are making a shakeup in their bullpen. John Axford is out and Francisco Rodriguez is in. Axford was 46 for 48 in save opportunities in 2011 but already has six blown saves, including a bad one on Monday, this season. Rodriguez isn’t having a great season but at least he’s comfortable in the closer role.

Make sure you know who’s playing in Week 1 of the NFL season and who will likely be suspended. Sheriff/NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will have to put some thought into possible bans for Cowboys WR Dez Bryant and Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch. Lynch was arrested for a DWI while Bryant got in a tussle with his mom. Who beats up their mom anyway? The Cowboys are 3-point road dogs Week 1 against the Giants, while Seattle is getting 2.5 points at Arizona.
