Five Things You Need to Know in Sports

Want to start your sports day off right? Looking for some action and the most exciting matchups of the day? There are is a college football game tonight and three key baseball games with playoff implications on tap. Here is a brief look at the top four important matchups of the day along with future odds.

1)Kent State at Buffalo, 7pmET from UB Stadium

Kent State takes on Buffalo on Wednesday at UB Stadium in a MAC conference matchup. Both teams were off last week. Two weeks ago, Kent State fell at Kentucky, 47-14, while Buffalo beat FCS Morgan State, 56-34 at home. These teams have not played each other since 2009. Kent State is 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 games following a ATS lossBuffalo is a 3.5-point favorite with a total of 51.5.

2)Colorado at San Francisco, Tyler Chatwood (4-4, 5.65 ERA) vs. Matt Cain (14-5, 2.93 ERA)

This is the third game of a three-game series. Tyler Chatwood takes the mound for the Rockies against Matt Cain for the Giants. The Giants are looking to clinch the NL West. Taking on Tyler Chatwood (5.65 ERA, 1.71 WHIP) doesn't hurt your chances. Chatwood lasted just 3 2/3 IP in his last outing against San Diego. San Francisco roughed him up on August 5 (8-3) and will do so again. Giants are 6-0 Over last 6 Wednesday games. The Giants opened as a -250 favorite with a total of 7.

3)Texas at LA Angels, Derek Holland (10-6, 4.50 ERA) vs. C.J. Wilson (12-9, 3.73 ERA)

Here is a major opportunity for the Angels, who are 7.5 games behind the Rangers in the AL West (before Tuesday's results). They still have a chance at a wild card spot as well but they better get things going. Hard to believe they are worse than Oakland and Baltimore with that payroll. Texas is 19-9 in their last 28 games on grass. The Angels opened as a -125 favorite with a total of 8.5.

4)Oakland at Detroit, Brett Anderson (4-1, 1.93 ERA) vs. Justin Verlander (14-8, 2.82 ERA)

This should be a great pitching matchup between two potential wild card teams. Anderson has been superb on a limited basis now is the really pressure. The Tigers desperately need this one and if you need one game, you send Verlander to the mound. Detroit is 26-8 last 34 home games. Detroit opened as a -180 favorite with a total of 7.
