on the book joint main board there are small red numbers in parenthesis ( ) behind the reply numbers.

not sure.mine are black.maybe a new reply that comes up??

They are the new replies since last time you were in that thread. What color they are depends on the settings you have. Most people are black but if you changed the stylesheets then they will appear whatever color the sheet is set to show.
