2010 NHL Stanley Cup Odds To Win – Capitals Favored By Oddsmakers

The 2010 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs are set to begin this week and the odds have been released for which team is favored to win this year’s championship.

The field of 16 teams is set and the Washington Capitals have emerged as the favorite to win Lord Stanley’s Cup after scoring the most points in the season.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com have given Washington 4/1 odds to win the Stanley Cup. Other short odds to win are Pittsburgh (5/1), San Jose (5/1), and Chicago (5/1).

The Capitals scored 121 points on the year as they racked up 54 wins. The Capitals scored 318 goals on the season and allowed 233. Washington has never won the Stanley Cup and hasn’t played in the Stanley Cup Finals since 1998. The Capitals will be the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and they will host the Montreal Canadiens in the opening round.

Pittsburgh is the defending Stanley Cup champion after defeating the Detroit Red Wings in seven games last year. Pittsburgh has won the last two Eastern Conference titles and won four titles in franchise history while winning three Stanley Cups in franchise history. The Penguins are the No. 4 seed in the East and they will face the Ottawa Senators in the opening round. Pittsburgh scored 101 points on the year with 257 goals while giving up 237.

San Jose is the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference and they will host the Colorado Avalanche in the opening round. The Sharks had 113 points on the season with 51 wins. They scored 264 goals as a team while giving up just 215. The Sharks have never won the Stanley Cup and have never reached the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Chicago Blackhawks are the No. 2 seed in the West with 112 points. The Blackhawks will face the Nashville Predators in the opening round. Chicago scored 271 goals as a team this season while allowing only 209. Chicago has won three Stanley Cup titles with the last coming in 1961. Chicago has not played for the Stanley Cup since 1992.
