2010 NHL Western Conference Odds To Win – Sharks & Blackhawks Favored

The 2010 NHL Western Conference Playoffs are up for grabs as oddsmakers can’t decide on a clear cut favorite to reach the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals.

With eight teams vying for the conference title, the San Jose Sharks and the Chicago Blackhawks have emerged as the favorites.

Oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction have given Chicago and San Jose 2/1 odds to win the Western Conference. Other short odds to win are Detroit (3/1), Phoenix (5/1), and Vancouver (5/1).

San Jose is the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference and they will host the Colorado Avalanche in the opening round. The Sharks had 113 points on the season with 51 wins. They scored 264 goals as a team while giving up just 215. The Sharks have never won the Stanley Cup and have never reached the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Chicago Blackhawks are the No. 2 seed in the West with 112 points. The Blackhawks will face the Nashville Predators in the opening round. Chicago scored 271 goals as a team this season while allowing only 209. Chicago has won three Stanley Cup titles with the last coming in 1961. Chicago has not played for the Stanley Cup since 1992.

Detroit enters the playoffs as the No. 5 seed. The Red Wings scored 102 points on the year thanks to 229 goals for and 216 goals against. Detroit has won six conference titles in franchise history including the last two championships. Detroit is hoping to win its 11th Stanley Cup title. The Red Wings will face the Coyotes in the opening round.

Phoenix is the No. 4 seed in the West after scoring 107 points on the season. The Coyotes have scored 225 goals this season while allowing just 202. Phoenix has never won the conference title or the Stanley Cup in franchise history. The Coyotes face the Red Wings in the opening round.

Vancouver is the No. 3 seed in the tournament. The Canucks scored 103 points but won the Northwest Division to earn the third seed. The Canucks scored 272 goals on the season while allowing 222. The Canucks have won two conference titles in franchise history but have never won the Stanley Cup title. Vancouver will meet the Los Angeles Kings in the opening round.
