2011 NHL Stanley Cup Odds to Win – Blackhawks Open as 11/2 Favorites
After hoisting the Stanley Cup in 2010, it’s no surprise that the Chicago Blackhawks are the favorites to win another NHL championship in 2011, but they have company.
Let’s take a look at the opening odds for the 2011 NHL Stanley Cup.
The Blackhawks beat the Philadelphia Flyers in a thrilling six-game Stanley Cup final in 2010. They clinched the series in Game 6 with an exciting 5-4 overtime victory in Philadelphia.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction, the Hawks have opened as 11/2 favorites to win the 2011 Stanley Cup. The Flyers are 15/1 long-shots, while the Pittsburgh Penguins are listed right behind Chicago at 6/1.
Despite winning the Cup in 2009, the Penguins were shocked by the No. 8-seeded Montreal Canadiens in the second round of the playoffs last season. The Canadiens, who eventually went on to lose 4-1 to the Flyers in the Eastern Conference title series, has opened as a 30/1 long-shot to win in 2011.
Another team that disappointed in 2010 were the Detroit Red Wings, who wound up being the No. 5 seed in the playoffs. They got past the Phoenix Coyotes in the first round, but fell to the No. 1-seeded San Jose Sharks in the second. The Wings are 12/1 to win in 2011, while the Sharks are 9/1.
