Blue Jackets place winger Vyborny on injured reserve
ASSOCIATED PRESS

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Blue Jackets placed right wing David Vyborny on injured reserve with a hip injury Sunday and recalled center Derek MacKenzie from their American Hockey League affiliate in Syracuse.

Vyborny was placed on injured reserve retroactive to Dec. 1 when he injured his hip against the Calgary Flames, Blue Jackets General Manager Scott Howson said.

MacKenzie had 10 goals and five assists in 27 games this season for the Syracuse Crunch.

Columbus hosts Anaheim Monday.

New Jersey at N.Y. Rangers (5 p.m. EST). The Devils try to extend their winning streak to 10 games at the expense of the Rangers, who won the first three meetings this season.

STARS

-Henrik Zetterberg, Red Wings, recorded his second career three-goal game in Detroit's 5-0 win over Minnesota.

-Evgeni Nabokov and Milan Michalek, Sharks. Nabokov made 27 saves and Michalek scored with 15 seconds left in the second period to lead San Jose past Phoenix 1-0.

-Brad Boyes, Blues, had two goals in St. Louis' 4-3 win at Edmonton.

-Jose Theodore and Milan Hejduk, Avalanche. Theodore made 28 saves, Hejduk scored his 99th career power-play goal and Colorado edged Philadelphia 2-1.

MAKE IT NINE

New Jersey pushed its winning streak to nine games, matching the third-best in team history, with a 3-2 win over Washington on Friday night. The Devils are two wins away from tying their second-best streak and four from matching the record.

NEW YUCH, NEW YUCH

The New York Islanders lost their fifth straight game Friday night, 3-0 to Florida. The Islanders have failed to score more than three goals in each of their last 17 games, including two shutouts in December. ... The New York Rangers lost for the second straight night and third consecutive time overall with their 4-2 defeat at Atlanta. They have been outscored 14-4 during the slump.

FLYING WINGS

Detroit extended its winning streak to five games with Friday night's 5-0 win over Minnesota and has collected points in eight of the last nine contests since its three-game losing streak.

NO-NO-NO NABOKOV

San Jose's Evgeni Nabokov shut out Phoenix for the third straight time, making 27 saves in a 1-0 win over Phoenix on Friday night. The Sharks have won all four meetings between the teams this season.

SWEET MUSIC

St. Louis is 9-2-1 in its last 12 games after holding off Edmonton 4-3 on Friday night. The Blues moved past Columbus for sole possession of second place in the Central Division.

MAGIC LEGWAND

Nashville forward David Legwand has signed a six-year, $27 million contract extension through the 2014-15 season. Legwand holds franchise records with 304 points, 113 goals, 28 game-winning goals, 10 overtime points and 15 multiple-goal games.

Boston Bruins at Buffalo Sabres

Boston and Buffalo played each other three times in 10 days in early November, splitting a pair of overtime games before the Bruins won the last game 2-1 in regulation on Nov. 10.

New Jersey Devils at Washington Capitals

The Devils (16-10-3) have won eight of their last nine meetings with the Capitals (10-17-2), including a 3-2 victory Friday night at home.

Anaheim Ducks at Columbus Blue Jackets

The Ducks and Blue Jackets have split both meetings this season.

Tampa Bay Lightning at Toronto Maple Leafs

The Stars are 22-6-3 with one tie versus the Oilers since the start of the 1998-99 season. Edmonton has played better at Dallas recently, though, winning three of its last five there after going 0-10-0 with one tie in a stretch from 1999-2004.

Vancouver Canucks at Los Angeles Kings

New Jersey Devils vs. Washington Capitals

- The fans at Verizon Center will be treated to a game between the New Jersey Devils and the Washington Capitals when they take their seats on Monday.

The Devils lost to the Rangers 1-0 in overtime as a +120 underdog last time out. The one goal scored fell UNDER the posted over/under total (5).

Martin Brodeur stopped 28-of-29 shots for the Devils in the loss.

The Capitals dominated the entire night on Saturday, as they skated past the Thrashers 6-3. The Capitals won the game as -125 favorites, and the nine goals sailed OVER the posted over/under (5.5).

Mike Green scored a pair, while singles came off the sticks of Nicklas Backstrom, Jeff Schultz, Alexander Ovechkin and Matt Pettinger.

The Ducks were doubled 4-2 by the Predators last time out, as +135 road underdogs. The six goals made it OVER the posted over/under (5).
