Carolina Hurricanes at New York Rangers

New York is 6-1-0 with a tie in its last eight meetings with Carolina at Madison Square Garden, including wins in both matchups there last season.

Dallas Stars at Columbus Blue Jackets

The Stars have owned their series with the Blue Jackets since Columbus entered the league in 2000, going 19-3-3. But the Blue Jackets had won four of the previous five games before Dallas' 3-2 shootout road win on Oct. 17.

Avs could be without Sakic again vs. Sharks
ASSOCIATED PRESS

The Colorado Avalanche managed to gut out a win without their captain over the weekend, but they'd no doubt feel a lot better with him on the ice on Monday.

The Avalanche could be without Joe Sakic again when they host the San Jose Sharks.

Sakic sat out Saturday's 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings because of a sore groin, ending his regular-season streak of 232 consecutive games played. Sakic played in the final 44 games of the 2003-04 season, all 82 in each of the last two seasons, then the first 24 this season.

Coach Joel Quenneville was not sure how much time Sakic, who ranks second on the team with 15 assists and 22 points, would miss.

"It's tough to say," Quenneville said. "I don't even want to speculate if Monday's an option right now. Joe knows his body pretty well, but we want him to wait as long as it takes until he's back 100 percent. It's nothing we want to fool around with for an extended period of time."

Goalie Quick gets called up

With starting goaltender Jason LaBarbera injured in the Kings' 5-2 loss to Colorado on Saturday, the team recalled goalie Jonathan Quick from the American Hockey League on an emergency basis for tonight's game against Edmonton at Staples Center.

LaBarbera suffered a rib injury with 14 minutes 40 seconds remaining in the third period when he was hit by the Avalanche's Ryan Smyth during a scramble near the net. LaBarbera was forced to leave and his return is uncertain.

Quick, selected by the Kings in the third round of the 2005 draft, has played in three games with the Manchester (N.H.) Monarchs this season and has a 1-2-0 record, a 2.67 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage. Quick also has played in 13 games with the Reading Royals of the East Coast Hockey League, where he had a 7-5-1 record, one shutout, a 2.46 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage.

The Kings put forward Alexander Frolov on the injured list because of a groin injury (retroactive to Nov. 21) and assigned forward Matt Moulson to Manchester and recalled forward Gabe Gauthier from the Monarchs. Gauthier has played in 21 games with Manchester this season and is tied for the team lead in goals with eight and is second in team scoring with 27 points.

Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars activated defenseman Mattias Norstrom from the injured reserve list Monday and placed right wing Jere Lehtinen on the IR.
