Red Wings place Drake on IR

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings placed veteran forward Dallas Drake on injured reserve Thursday with a fractured cheekbone.
Drake, who has one assist in eight games this season, suffered the injury in a game against the San Jose Sharks on October 18 and will likely be sidelined one week.
To take Drake's spot on the roster, Detroit recalled goaltender Jimmy Howard from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League with starting netminder Dominik Hasek nursing a hip injury.
Sabres call up Weber to bolster defense

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -Defenseman Mike Weber was called up from the minors by the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday to bolster the team's injury-depleted defense.
The Sabres' second-round pick in the 2006 draft, Weber could make his NHL debut Friday when Buffalo plays at Florida. He's had three assists in nine games in his first year with AHL Rochester this season.
The Sabres, in the midst of playing five straight road games, could be down two regular blue-liners after Dmitri Kalinin sprained his knee in a 6-2 loss at Carolina on Wednesday. Jaroslav Spacek's status is uncertain after he missed the past three games with a shoulder injury.
Red Wings say Dominik Hasek out indefinitely with sore hip.

DETROIT (AP) -Red Wings goalie Dominik Hasek will be out indefinitely with a sore hip, meaning Chris Osgood will start Friday against San Jose.
Hasek, 42, made 13 saves in Detroit's 3-2 win over Vancouver on Wednesday. He is 4-2-1 this season with a 2.68 goals-against average.
The Red Wings called up Jimmy Howard from their Grand Rapids AHL affiliate to back up Osgood. Howard is 3-1-0 with a 3.00 goals-against average in four games with the Griffins this season.
Detroit also placed forward Dallas Drake on injured reserve for a broken cheekbone sustained Oct. 18 against San Jose. He is expected to miss at least one week

Brad Richards had two goals to lead Tampa Bay past the Philadelphia Flyers, 5-2, on Thursday night. The Lightning tied a franchise record set in 2002 by starting the season 5-0 at home. Tampa Bay is also 12-1 against the Flyers since the start of the 2003-04 season.
DUCK HUNT
Phoenix's 1-0 victory over Anaheim on Thursday night ended the Coyotes' 10-game losing streak against the Ducks in Anaheim dating to the 2003-2004 season. They also beat Anaheim goalie Ilya Bryzgalov for just the second time in his nine games against them.

Alexander Frolov scored the go-ahead goal and Jason LaBarbera made 29 saves Thursday night, leading the Los Angeles Kings to a 2-1 victory over Dallas, snapping a nine-game losing streak to the Stars. The win was their first over Dallas since April 1, 2006, a 1-0 victory at Staples Center. The Kings, coming off victories over Vancouver and Nashville, have won three straight for the first time since a five-game streak Feb. 11-March 7, 2006.
STREAKING
Rick Nash scored a goal in his fifth straight game on a shot between his legs and Columbus beat the Blues 3-0 on Thursday night. It was his sixth goal in his five-game goal streak and raised his season total to eight.

Nigel Dawes broke New York out of its scoring slump with two goals Thursday night to lift the Rangers to a 2-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils. Dawes struck just 57 seconds in, snapping the Rangers' drought at 126 minutes, dating to last Thursday's 5-3 loss at Atlanta. It was also their first tally at even strength in 182:06, stretching to a 3-1 home loss against Ottawa on Oct. 13 that kicked off the skid. ... Dan Ellis stopped 20 shots for his first career shutout, helping the Predators snap a six-game losing streak and beat the Thrashers 3-0 Thursday night.

The Minnesota Wild signed defenseman Brent Burns to a four-year contract extension Thursday. Burns, 22, has 15 goals and 36 assists in 194 career NHL games over four seasons with Minnesota.

Blackhawks' Koci on IR after fight

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Blackhawks placed forward David Koci and defenseman Andrei Zyuzin on the injured reserve list on Friday. They also recalled center Dave Bolland from Rockford (AHL).
Koci, 26, left the Blackhawks' 3-1 loss to Boston in the first period, after breaking his nose. He had fought with the Bruins' 6-foot-9, 255-pound defenseman Zdeno Chara.
Koci (6-6, 238) had already injured the nose in Chicago's game at Toronto on October 20. He has no goals, but 24 penalty minutes, in seven games this season.
Zyuzin, 29, landed on the IR because of a strained muscle in his backside. He has one goal and one assist in seven games.
Bolland, 21, has scored four goals and one assist for Rockford. He made his NHL debut with the Blackhawks last season, playing one game on October 25. Bolland had 17 goals and 32 assists with Norfolk (AHL) in 2006-07.
