Colorado Avalanche vs. Minnesota Wild

Hockey Today

Colorado at Minnesota (7 p.m. EDT). The Avalanche, Wild and Flames are tied atop the Northwest Division with 84 points.

STARS

-Joe Corvo, Hurricanes, scored three goals in Carolina's 5-1 rout of Ottawa.

-Evgeni Malkin and Petr Sykora, Penguins, each had two goals and two assists to help Pittsburgh pound Philadelphia 7-1.

-Manny Malhotra, Blue Jackets, had two goals and a career-high three points in Columbus' 4-3 win over Detroit.

-Dwayne Roloson, Oilers, made 48 saves and stopped three more shots in the shootout, carrying Edmonton to a 2-1 win over San Jose.

PHLAILING

Evgeni Malkin scored twice and had two assists in Pittsburgh's 4-2 victory over Philadelphia on Sunday, the Flyers' fourth straight loss and sixth in eight games. Malkin has three goals and eight points in his last two games against the Flyers and nine goals and 13 assists in 13 career games against them.

SNAPPED

Ales Hemsky scored in regulation and Fernando Pisani got the decisive shootout goal and Edmonton upended San Jose 2-1, snapping the Sharks' 11-game winning streak. Joe Thornton picked up his NHL-leading 65th assist in the loss.

OLD FRIENDS

Joe Corvo scored three times against his old team, the first hat trick of his career, and Patrick Eaves chipped in a goal to lead Carolina past Ottawa 5-1 on Sunday. It was Eaves' first goal since he and Corvo were traded from the Senators to the Hurricanes about two months ago.

DEADLOCKED

Calgary defeated Chicago 4-2 on Sunday to climb into a three-way tie with idle Minnesota and Colorado for first place in the Northwest Division at 84 points.

STREAKING

Olli Jokinen and Rostislav Olesz scored power-play goals and Florida tied a franchise record with its seventh consecutive victory, 3-1 over Atlanta on Sunday. The Panthers also won seven in a row in the 1995-96 and 2005-06 seasons. Brett McLean extended his point streak to six games with two assists for Florida.

CELEBRATION DELAYED

Alex Ovechkin had his eight-game point streak snapped in Washington's 2-1 shootout win over Boston on Sunday and remains one point away from becoming the first Capitals player with two 100-point seasons.

FRANCHISE RECORD

Columbus beat Detroit 4-3 on Sunday to set a franchise record with 75 points.

SPEAKING

``Geno kind of, for whatever reason, seems to turn it up a notch when Sid's not in the lineup, I can't really explain why.'' - Pittsburgh's Brooks Orpik, on Evgeni Malkin, who continued his strong play in the absence of reigning MVP Sidney Crosby in the Penguins' 4-2 win over Philadelphia on Sunday. Malkin has notched 17 goals and 23 assists in leading Pittsburgh to a 13-6-4 record without Crosby in the lineup.
