Hockey Today

Vancouver at Colorado (9 p.m. EDT). The Canucks and Avalanche are four points behind division-leading Calgary.

STARS

-Daniel Alfredsson and Anton Volchenkov, Senators. Alfredsson scored twice in the third period, Volchenkov snapped a tie with less than 2 minutes left and Ottawa rallied to beat Buffalo 6-3.

-Mike Richards, Flyers, scored a breakaway goal 2:16 into overtime and Philadelphia beat the New York Rangers 2-1.

-Dan Ellis, Predators, stopped all 36 shots he faced in Nashville's 3-0 win over Columbus.

-Marc-Andre Fleury, Penguins, had 31 saves to help Pittsburgh blank New Jersey 2-0.

-Martin Hanzal, Coyotes, scored with 1:37 left in overtime to give Phoenix a 5-4 win over San Jose.

-Viktor Kozlov, Capitals, scored in the third round of the shootout to lead Washington past Carolina 3-2.

-Jeff Halpern, Lightning, had a goal and two assists in Tampa Bay's 3-1 win over Florida.

-Daymond Langkow and Dion Phaneuf, Flames, scored 41 seconds apart in the third period and Calgary rallied to beat Vancouver 3-2.

RECORD NIGHT

Washington's Alexander Ovechkin broke the team record for goals in a season with his league-leading 61st in a 3-2 shootout win at Carolina on Tuesday night.

PLAYOFF-BOUND PENGUINS

Pittsburgh clinched a playoff berth and increased its lead in the Atlantic Division to four points over New Jersey after beating the Devils 2-0 on Tuesday night. The Penguins beat New Jersey for the second time in three nights, starting with a 7-1 rout on Saturday.

DAMAGING LOSSES

Buffalo blew a 3-1, third-period lead by allowing Ottawa to score five goals in the final 7:40 for a stunning 6-3 loss on Tuesday night. The Sabres have lost two straight, and are in 10th place, five points behind Boston with six games remaining. ... Toronto fell six points behind Boston for the final playoff spot in the East its 6-2 loss to the Bruins. The Leafs have five games left and can only reach 90 points if they win out. Boston improved to 86 points. ... Florida lost in regulation for the first time in 10 game (8-1-1), but fell five points behind Boston for eighth place in the Eastern Conference after a 3-1 loss to Tampa Bay. The Panthers are three points behind ninth-place Washington, tied with Buffalo for 10th.

FLYING HIGHER

Philadelphia won its fourth straight and moved within one point of the sixth-place Rangers in the Eastern Conference playoff race after beating New York 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday night.

HOME FIRES

Calgary has won four in a row at home and improved to 6-0-3 in its last nine at Pengrowth Saddledome after rallying for a 3-2 win over Vancouver. The Flames took over first place in the Northwest Division, one point over idle Minnesota. Each team has five games remaining, but Calgary has just one left at home.

ONE-SIDED

Nashville beat Columbus for the seventh straight time at home 3-0 on Tuesday night, improving its streak in this series to 15 games with at least a point against the Blue Jackets, a streak that goes back to Nov. 16, 2006, and is the third-longest such streak in the NHL. They have a chance to add to that Friday night at Columbus.

ROYS SUSPENDED

Hall of Fame goalie Patrick Roy and his son were suspended a total of 12 games for their parts in a brawl that broke out during a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff game. The league said Tuesday that Roy, who coaches Quebec Remparts, was suspended five games for conduct related to his team's fight with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens on Saturday. Goalie Jonathon Roy was suspended seven games for barreling into Bobby Nadeau and repeatedly hitting him. The suspensions were effective immediately and could run into next regular season.
