SCOREBOARD

Monday, June 1

No games scheduled. Detroit and Pittsburgh will play Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals Tuesday night in Pittsburgh. The Red Wings swept the first two games in Detroit, winning 3-1 on both Saturday and Sunday nights.

STARS

Sunday

— Chris Osgood(notes), Jonathan Ericsson(notes), Valtteri Filppula(notes) and Justin Abdelkader(notes), Red Wings. Osgood made 31 saves, and Ericsson, Filppula and Abdelkader scored in Detroit’s 3-1 victory over Pittsburgh in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals. Detroit leads 2-0.

SWIFT RETURN

Swedish defenseman Jonathan Ericsson scored in Detroit’s 3-1 victory over Pittsburgh in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals Sunday night, four days after having his appendix removed. Ericsson was promoted from Grand Rapids of the AHL in March.

SUPRISE

Justin Abdelkader scored in both of Detroit’s 3-1 wins in the Stanley Cup finals. Abdelkader, the former Muskegon high school star who played at Michigan State, failed to score in two regular-season games and his first seven playoff games.

SIGNING

Edmonton signed center Milan Kytnar to a three-year entry level contract Sunday. The 20-year-old Slovak, drafted 127th overall in 2007, had 27 goals and 37 assists in 65 regular-season games for Saskatoon this season in the Western Hockey League.

SPEAKING

“I thought we were exhausted out there. It’s amazing what will does for you. We found a way to win two games, but we haven’t been as good as we’re capable of being.”—Detroit coach Mike Babcock after the Red Wings’ 3-1 victory over Pittsburgh on Sunday night in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals.

“It’s not good, but at the same time, it shows us our game can be successful. If we keep playing the same way, we’re going to come out on the right side of things. We would have liked to have different results, but that’s playoff hockey.”—Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby(notes), who went scoreless in Games 1 and 2.
