Wild`s Fernandez is hurt again, questionable for Thursday`s game

Associated Press
Wed, Jan 31, 2007

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Minnesota Wild goalie Manny Fernandez aggravated his sprained left knee in Tuesday`s game at St. Louis, leaving his status in doubt for the rest of the Wild`s road trip.

Fernandez was questionable for Thursday`s game at Colorado, team spokesman Aaron Sickman said Wednesday. Niklas Backstrom would replace Fernandez if he can`t play, and Josh Harding could be recalled from the minors.

Fernandez was initially hurt in Minnesota`s game on Jan. 20 against Dallas, and he returned to action one week later with the benefit of the All-Star break.

Fernandez is 22-16 with a .911 save percentage and a 2.57 goals-against average this season.

Forsberg optimistic about right ankle

Associated Press
Wed, Jan 31, 2007

VOORHEES, N.J. -- Philadelphia Flyers center Peter Forsberg had a second straight day of near-trouble-free skating Wednesday with his troublesome right ankle.

``It looks good, I`m positive,`` he said. ``It felt better yesterday. I don`t think it`s 100 percent, but it`s 10 times better than it used to be. I was very happy yesterday, and it felt pretty good at practice today. We`ll keep on working on it.``

Forsberg has had difficulty finding a skate to accommodate his surgically repaired foot, but a new orthotic seems to be providing some relief.

He acknowledged Thursday night`s game against the New Jersey Devils will be a big test.

``The game after has been brutal,`` he said.
