Boston Bruins vs. Chicago Blackhawks Preview and Predictions 03-11-2018
10th March 2018 by Gracenote
After scoring four unanswered goals in the third period to win the opener, the Boston Bruins look to sweep the home-and-home series when they visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday afternoon. The Bruins, who are beginning a four-game road trip, scored three times in a span of 2:55 during the first half of the final session on Saturday en route to a 7-4 victory that extended their winning streak to six contests.
Brad Marchand recorded two assists in the win to give him 11 of his team-leading 69 points in the last five games and is expected to avoid league discipline after striking Chicago's Anthony Duclair in the head during a collision. The Bruins scored four times on the power play in the victory and will look for similar production in the rematch with the Blackhawks, who have dropped five of their last seven games and coughed up leads in the past two. Chicago, which is almost certain to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2007-08, has surrendered 27 goals over its last six contests. Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews scored his 19th goal Saturday, giving him three tallies to go along with three assists in his last five games.
TV: 12:30 p.m. ET, NBC, TVA
ABOUT THE BRUINS (43-15-8): David Pastrnak also stayed hot Saturday with a goal and has registered eight of his 64 points over the last five contests. Veteran forward Brian Gionta continues to be a revelation since being signed as a free agent after serving as captain of the United States team in the Winter Olympics, scoring one goal and setting up another against Chicago to give him six points in five games. David Krejci has recorded two multi-goal performances in five matches this month while defenseman Torey Krug has collected 10 points in his last six contests.
ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (29-32-8): Coach Joel Quenneville told reporters after Saturday's game that Duclair, who has notched two goals and six assists in 23 games since being acquired from Arizona, would miss up to two weeks with a right leg injury he sustained after coming down awkwardly following the hit by Marchand. John Hayden was recalled from Rockford of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis Saturday as Vinnie Hinostroza tended to a personal matter and scored in his first NHL game since Jan. 5. Patrick Kane, who recorded his 40th assist of the season on Saturday, leads the team in both goals (24) and points (64).
OVERTIME
1. Chicago C Artem Anisimov needs one goal to reach 20 for the third consecutive season.
2. Boston LW Rick Nash scored his third goal Saturday in his seventh game since being acquired from the New York Rangers.
3. Blackhawks C Matthew Highmore registered his first goal in his sixth NHL contest on Saturday.
PREDICTION: Bruins 4, Blackhawks 3

New York Islanders vs. Calgary Flames Preview and Predictions 03-11-2018
10th March 2018 By Brad Mullins for Scores And Stats
The Calgary Flames registered five of six possible points on their recent road trip and look to gain more ground in the playoff race when they start a three-game homestand against the struggling New York Islanders on Sunday. The Flames earned a point in Pittsburgh before knocking off Buffalo along with Ottawa to end the trip and entered Saturday one point out of the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
"Every game is a must-win, so to pick up five of six on this road trip, that's huge for our squad," Calgary forward Sam Bennett, who has scored in back-to-back games, told reporters after the 2-1 victory at Ottawa on Friday. "We're all feeling good and we're going to continue to roll with our momentum right now." The Flames play eight of their last 13 games at home where they are only 14-15-4 and take on an Islanders' squad that has lost eight consecutive games (0-4-4). New York entered Saturday eight points out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference after losing the first two contests on its four-game trip in overtime and falling 2-1 in a shootout Thursday at Edmonton. "Good teams find a way to close those games out," Islanders defenseman Thomas Hickey told reporters. "We're trying to be a good team. It's that hump you have to get over."
TV: 7 p.m. ET, MSG Plus (New York), Sportsnet (Calgary)
ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (29-29-10): Rookie Mathew Barzal has cooled off with two of his team-leading 69 points in the last four games while captain John Tavares posted three in the past three contests and recorded 14 shots in the last two. Christopher Gibson has made quite an impact in his first two starts of the season in net, turning aside 82 of the 86 shots he faced to earn points in both. "It's been a long and hard path, to be honest. It hasn't been easy," Gibson, a former second round pick of Los Angeles in 2011, told reporters. "That's why I cherish every single moment that I'm here."
ABOUT THE FLAMES (34-25-10): All-Star goalie Mike Smith (23-16-6, .921 save percentage) has been fully practicing and could return to the lineup in the next few contests. "He's progressing at a real good rate," Calgary coach Glen Gulutzan told reporters of Smith, who has been out since Feb. 11 with a lower-body injury. "We're hoping it's someday soon. We're day-to-day." Leading scorer Johnny Gaudreau notched an assist Friday to push his total to 77 points, one shy of his career-best in 2014-15, while Sean Monahan is one short of his career-high goal total (31) in that same season.
OVERTIME
1. Both teams are struggling on the power play as the Islanders are 2-for-21 the last nine games and the Flames 1-for-20 in the past six.
2. New York F Anders Lee is tied with Tavares for the team lead with 31 goals, but managed only two in the last 12 contests.
3. Calgary has earned at least a point in four straight meetings, including a 3-2 win Feb. 11 in New York with two goals from F Matthew Tkachuk.
PREDICTION: Flames 5, Islanders 4

Dallas Stars vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Preview and Predictions 03-11-2018
10th March 2018 by Gracenote
The Pittsburgh Penguins attempt to reclaim first place in the Metropolitan Division a day after surrendering it when they host the Dallas Stars on Sunday. Pittsburgh fell one point behind Washington and are just one ahead of third-place Philadelphia in the tight division race with Saturday's 5-2 setback at Toronto.
Captain Sidney Crosby and Patric Hornqvist scored 68 seconds apart late in the third period to prevent a shutout loss for the Penguins, who had their three-game overall winning streak snapped but have captured 13 of their last 14 at home. Dallas looks to strengthen its hold on the first wild-card spot in the Western Conference and remain within reach of Minnesota for third place in the Central Division as it begins a crucial six-game road trip. The Stars will face four teams firmly entrenched in playoff positions during their string away from home, where they have lost three of their last four - with the last two defeats being 2-0 shutouts. Dallas is coming off a 2-1 home victory of Anaheim in which captain Jamie Benn set up Devin Shore's power-play goal in the third period that forged a tie before scoring one of his own with 5:37 remaining.
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network
ABOUT THE STARS (38-24-6): Tyler Seguin notched a pair of assists against the Ducks for his fourth multi-point performance in five games. The 26-year-old center, who leads the team with 64 points, has landed on the scoresheet in seven of his last eight contests - collecting seven goals and six assists in that span. Dallas played Friday without defenseman Marc Methot (knee), Mattias Janmark (flu) and Martin Hanzal, who is slated to undergo season-ending spinal fusion surgery that will require a recovery time of six-to-seven months, but welcomed back Radek Faksa (foot) and Esa Lindell (illness).
ABOUT THE PENGUINS (39-26-4): Bryan Rust, who has recorded a career-high 33 points this season, sat out the loss to the Maple Leafs after suffering a concussion in Wednesday's victory at Philadelphia. "He's a tough guy to replace," coach Mike Sullivan told the team's website. "He's a real versatile player. He's a real good player, brings a lot of energy to our team, I think he helps our team speed when he's in our lineup." Josh Jooris, who was acquired from Carolina at last month's trade deadline, replaced Rust in the lineup and registered one shot in 9 minutes, 42 seconds of ice time in his first NHL game since Feb. 23 - against Pittsburgh.
OVERTIME
1. Crosby, whose goal on Saturday was his 1,101st point, is four assists shy of 700 for his career.
2. Dallas LW Antoine Roussel is expected to skate in his 400th career game on Sunday.
3. Hornqvist's tally against Toronto drew him within three points of 400 in the NHL.
PREDICTION: Penguins 4, Stars 3

Vancouver Canucks vs. Arizona Coyotes Preview and Predictions 03-11-2018
10th March 2018 by Gracenote
The Arizona Coyotes attempt to defeat the Vancouver Canucks for the second time in five days when they begin a five-game homestand Sunday against their Pacific Division rivals. Arizona posted a 2-1 victory at Vancouver on Wednesday as Derek Stepan snapped a tie with 58 seconds remaining in the third period to even the season series at one win apiece.
The Coyotes are coming off a 5-2 loss at Colorado on Saturday that concluded their 1-1-1 road trip, with Richard Panik recording a goal and an assist to give him four points in his last five games. Vancouver wrapped up a 1-2-2 homestand Friday with a 5-2 setback against Minnesota in which it forged a tie on Jussi Jokinen's goal at 7:51 of the second period before allowing the final three tallies. Daniel Sedin has registered eight goals and seven assists over his last 13 games after helping set up Jokinen's score. Sedin has recorded one two-goal performance during his hot streak - a 3-1 victory at Arizona on Feb. 25.
TV: 9 p.m. ET, Sportsnet Pacific (Vancouver), FS Arizona
ABOUT THE CANUCKS (25-34-9): Jokinen has scored in back-to-back games after recording just one goal in his previous 47 contests this season - all but one of which were with other teams. The 34-year-old Finnish left wing, who was acquired from Columbus on Feb. 26, began the campaign with Edmonton but was traded to Los Angeles and later claimed off waivers by the Blue Jackets before joining Vancouver - his ninth club since making his NHL debut in 2005-06 with Dallas. Rookie Brock Boeser leads the team with 29 goals, but is likely done for the season with a back injury.
ABOUT THE COYOTES (21-35-11): Stepan and Laurent Dauphin both exited Saturday's contest after being hit by shots and are questionable to face the Canucks. Clayton Keller leads the club with 48 points and is seven away from breaking the Coyotes rookie record set in 2007-08 by Peter Mueller. Antti Raanta likely will start against Vancouver after sitting out Saturday's contest to nurse a lower-body injury.
OVERTIME
1. The Coyotes have won six of their last eight contests at home, where they are 12-18-4 overall.
2. Vancouver C Bo Horvat has landed on the scoresheet in four of his last five games, collecting two goals and four assists in that span.
3. Arizona had earned points in 11 of 13 games (9-2-2) prior to Saturday's loss.
PREDICTION: Coyotes 3, Canucks 1
