There are four games scheduled in the National Hockey League playoffs on Monday, April, 15, including three series that are tied at 1-1 as all four series move to new venues. The Colorado Avalanche look to take a 2-1 lead over the team with the best record in the Western Conference, the Calgary Flames, and the Toronto Maple Leafs look to go up 2-1 over the Boston Bruins in an Original Six battle. That Nashville Predators look to regain home-ice advantage against the Dallas Stars.

Featured Game

Calgary Flames(-125) vs.Colorado Avalanche(+105)

The Colorado Avalanche earned the victory in Game 2, defeating the Calgary Flames in overtime, 3-2. After a scoreless first period, Colorado would take the lead in the second but the score would be tied at the end of two. Calgary would take their first lead on a Sean Monahan goal but J.T. Compher tied the score with a little less than three minutes left in the game. Nathan McKinnon would when the contest 8:27 into the extra frame. Philipp Grubauer made 35 saves to in the victory.

Goaltending Matchup:

Mike Smith will be in goal for Calgary. After shutting out Colorado in Game 1 of this series, he allowed three goals on 39 shots in the overtime loss. Smith has not allowed more than three goals in any of his last 10 starts and has allowed 18 total goals in that span.

Philipp Grubauer Rebounded after giving up three goals in Game 1, to allow just two on 37 shots in the victory. Grubauer has been absolutely brilliant of late, going 7-1-1 in his last nine starts. He has allowed 20 total goals in his last nine starts.

Trends to Watch:

The Calgary Flames are…

1-5 in their last six conference quarterfinals games.
23-11 in their last 34 games against teams with a losing record.
6-2 in their last eight games on a Monday.

The Colorado Avalanche are…

9-4 in their last 13 games.
7-3 in their last 10 games against teams from the Western Conference.
6-0 in their last six games at home.

Stat Pack:

Flames:
Goals For: 3.52
Goals Against: 2.72
Power-Play: 19.3%
Penalty Killing: 79.7%

Avalanche:
Goals For: 3.15
Goals Against: 2.98
Power-Play: 22.0%
Penalty Killing: 70.7%

Prediction

This is turning out to be the one series the Calgary probably dreaded the most. The Colorado Avalanche entered this series playing exceptionally well and had a goaltender who was playing his best hockey of the season heading into the playoffs. The Avalanche have won six straight games at home, and we expect them to jump out to take the lead in this series.

The total is set at 6.0 for this game. The total has gone under in each of the first two games and we expect that to happen here is well. Both goaltenders are playing solid hockey right now, and this should be a tight checking game. We take the Colorado Avalanche to win 3-2.

Two Games to Watch

Boston Bruins (+100) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (-120)

After losing at home in Game 1, 4-1, the Boston Bruins rebounded to take Game 2 by an identical score. Boston jumped out to a 3-0 halfway through the contest and four different players would find the back of the net for the Bruins. Tuukka Rask rebounded from a tough performance in Game 1 to stop 30 shots.

Why Boston Wins:

Bruins are 5-2 in their last seven games on the road.
Bruins are 21-9 in their last 30 games.
Maple Leafs are 1-4 in their last five games.
Maple Leafs are 2-5 in their last seven games at home.
Bruins are 5-2 in the last seven meetings between these two teams.

Bruins are 1-5 in their last six games against teams from the Atlantic Division.
