There are four games scheduled in the National Hockey League on Saturday, April 13, including the Dallas Stars looking to take the first two games of this series against the Nashville Predators in Tennessee. In other action, the Carolina Hurricanes take on the Washington Capitals and the Toronto Maple Leafs battle the Boston Bruins.

Featured Game

Dallas Stars(+135) vs.Nashville Predators(-150)

The Dallas Stars took a 1-0 lead in their series with the Nashville Predators, thanks to three unanswered goals in their 3-2 victory. Ben Bishop continued his domination, saving 25 of the 27 shots he faced. Miro Heiskanen had a goal and an assist for the victorious Dallas Stars.

Goaltending Matchup:

Ben Bishop has been absolutely brilliant for Dallas, going 27-15-2 this season with a 1.98 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage. Bishop is 8-1-0 in his last nine decisions and has five shutouts in his last nine starts. The Dallas goaltender has not allowed more than two goals in 12 straight appearances.

Pekka Rinne is 30-19-2 this season with a 2.42 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage. Rinne is 6-3-0 in his last nine decisions. He gave up three goals on 29 shots in the Game 1 loss but had earned victories in his prior four starts, allowing seven total goals in that span.

Trends to Watch:

The Dallas Stars are…

8-2 in their last 10 games on the road.
6-2 in their last eight games overall.
2-6 in their last eight games on a Saturday.

The Nashville Predators are…

5-2 in their last seven games.
10-3 in their last 13 conference quarterfinals games.
2-8 in their last 10 games on a Saturday.

Stat Pack:

Stars:
Goals For: 2.55
Goals Against: 2.44
Power-Play: 21.0%
Penalty Killing: 82.8%

Predators:
Goals For: 2.88
Goals Against: 2.59
Power-Play: 12.9%
Penalty Killing: 82.1%

Prediction

The Game 1 victory for Dallas was no fluke. This team is playing exceptionally well, and the fact that Nashville is not a high-powered offense is not helping their chances of evening this series. In addition, the road team has won five of the last six games in this series. A hot goaltender can take you a long way in the playoffs, and until the Predators can figure out Bishop they are likely to find themselves trailing 2-0 in this series.

The total is set at 5.0, which is not surprising considering the Dallas one the opening game 3-2. The total has gone under in five of the last six meetings between these two teams in Nashville with the other one being even. Both of these teams have struggling offenses and play exceptional defense. We would like to push on this contest, but expect Dallas to win 3-1.

Two Games to Watch

Toronto Maple Leafs (-125) vs. Boston Bruins (-145)

The Toronto Maple Leafs dominated the Boston Bruins in Game 1, 4-1, to take a 1-0 lead in this series. After giving up a goal a little less than 10 minutes into the contest, Toronto responded with four straight goals to earn the victory. Mitchell Marner scored two goals and Frederik Andersen stopped 37 of 38 shots he faced.

Why Toronto Wins:

Bruins are 1-4 in their last five games against Eastern Conference teams.
Andersen allowed one goal in his last start.
Tuukka Rask has lost four of his last five starts for Boston.

Why Boston Wins:

Bruins are 20-9 in their last 29 games.
Bruins are 51-21 in their last 72 games at home.
Maple Leafs are 2-5 in their last seven games.
Maple Leafs are 2-5 in their last seven games on the road.
Bruins are 4-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams.
Bruins are 6-2 in the last eight meetings in Boston.

What About the Total?

Gounder6.0, because…

Andersen allowed one goal in his last start.
Toronto has gone under in five of their last six games.
Toronto has gone under in five of their last seven on the road.
The total went under in Game 1 of this series.

Carolina Hurricanes (+128) vs. Washington Capitals (-155)

Nicklas Backstrom scored two first-period goals to help the Washington Capitals take a 3-0 lead, and they would hang on to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 1 of this series to take a 1-0 lead. John Carlson added assists on each of the first three Capitals goals and Braden Holtby saved 27 of 29 shots to are in the victory.

Why Carolina Wins:

Hurricanes are 8-0 in their last eight games on a Saturday.
Hurricanes are 21-10 in their last 31 games.
Road team is 6-2 in the last eight meetings between these two teams.
Petr Mrazek has allowed three goals or less in 10 straight starts.

Why Washington Wins:

Capitals are 5-1 in their last six games against teams with a winning record.
Capitals are 5-0 in their last five conference quarterfinals games.
Hurricanes are 1-4 in their last five games against teams with a winning record.
Capitals are 9-2 in the last 11 meetings in Washington.
Capitals are 21-8 in the last 29 meetings between these two teams.
Braden Holtby has won six straight games.

What About the Total?

Go over5.5, because…

Monty Andrews

Calgary was virtually unbeatable in the third period during the regular season, boasting an unimaginable +54 goal differential in the frame.

Two home teams look to seize 2-0 leads in their respective best-of-seven Stanley Cup series, while two others look to avoid going down 2-0 before hitting the road.

It's Day 4 of the NHL postseason, and the Boston Bruins and Nashville Predators already find themselves in must-win mode in their respective series against the Toronto Maple Leafs and Dallas Stars. Here are the top betting trends and tips to monitor as the first-round action continues:

CAROLINA HURRICANES AT WASHINGTON CAPITALS

Moneyline Odds: Carolina +140/Washington -160
Over/Under: 5.5 goals
Start Time: 3 p.m. ET, Capital One Arena, Washington, D.C.

The Capitals' 4-2 triumph over the Hurricanes in Game 1 extended their recent home dominance over Carolina, a stretch in which Washington has won nine of 11 games while holding the Hurricanes to two or fewer goals on eight occasions. And each of the Capitals' previous five wins over Carolina have come by multiple goals – so if you're leaning toward the defending Stanley Cup champions to extend that trend, you should consider taking the hosts on the puckline at +160.

DALLAS STARS AT NASHVILLE PREDATORS

Moneyline Odds: Dallas +135/Nashville -155
Over/Under: 5 goals
Start Time: 6 p.m. ET, Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, Tenn.

A first-period goal is a rarity for both the Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators – but bettors shouldn't let the Game 1 result sour them on what could be a profitable early prop. Both teams ranked at the bottom of the league in first-period goals in the regular season, and will be looking to continue their strong defensive play having ranked second and third in the NHL in fewest goals against. Look for the teams to go under the first-period goal total in what could be a low-scoring Game 2.

TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS AT BOSTON BRUINS

Moneyline Odds: Toronto +125/Boston -145
Over/Under: 6 goals
Start Time: 8 p.m. ET, TD Garden, Boston, Mass.

The Toronto Maple Leafs had no trouble with a three-goal lead in their latest game encounter with the Boston Bruins, cruising to a 4-1 victory to seize control of their best-of-seven series. And while it's too early to push the panic button, it is noteworthy that the Bruins have now lost four consecutive games as a favorite. But with the Leafs having dropped six in a row following a victory and six of their past eight games in Boston, we like the Bruins to bounce back in a big way in Game 2.

COLORADO AVALANCHE AT CALGARY FLAMES

Moneyline Odds: Colorado +190/Calgary -230
Over/Under: 6 goals
Start Time: 10:30 p.m. ET, Scotiabank Saddledome, Calgary, Alta.

The Flames were their usual dominant selves in the final 20 minutes of their series-opening 4-0 win over Colorado, scoring twice to bolster the lead they built with a pair of second-period tallies. Calgary was virtually unbeatable in the third period during the regular season, boasting an unimaginable +54 goal differential in the frame. And with Colorado ranking fourth in the NHL with 103 third-period goals, it's no stretch to go with the third as the highest-scoring period in this game.
