SCOREBOARD

Friday, Nov. 14

St. Louis at Chicago (8:30 p.m. EST). The Blues, who will wrap up a five-game trip, are winless in six games. The Blackhawks are 6-0-3 at home.

STARS

Thursday

— Marco Sturm and Stephane Yelle, Bruins, each scored two goals as Boston snapped a 12-game losing streak against Montreal by beating the Canadiens 6-1 at home.

— Niklas Backstrom, Wild, stopped 24 shots and earned his second shutout of the season in Minnesota’s 4-0 victory at home over Phoenix.

— Milan Michalek and Joe Pavelski, Sharks, scored two goals apiece in a 6-1 home win over Calgary.

— Tomas Kaberle, Maple Leafs, had a goal and two assists in Toronto’s 5-2 win at Edmonton.

— Marek Zidlicky, Wild, scored twice and had an assist as Minnesota beat Phoenix for the ninth straight time.

BLUE LINE SPECIAL

The San Jose Sharks’ defense set a franchise record with nine assists in a 6-1 rout of the Calgary Flames on Thursday night. Christian Ehrhoff, Rob Blake and Dan Boyle had three assists apiece, breaking the previous team mark of eight among defensemen—a feat accomplished twice previously, most recently in 1995.

WILD RETURN

Owen Nolan returned from the injured list after missing five straight games and eight of 11 due to a leg injury and posted two assists in the Minnesota Wild’s 4-0 home victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday night. To make roster room for Nolan, the Wild sent center Krys Kolanos to their AHL affiliate in Houston.

SENT DOWN

The St. Louis Blues returned promising rookie defenseman Alex Pietrangelo to his junior team on Thursday. The 18-year-old, chosen fourth overall in this year’s draft, played eight games with St. Louis, recording an assist and an even plus-minus rating. The Blues could’ve used Pietrangelo in nine games before his season counted as a full year. Instead, he’ll be with the Niagara Ice Dogs of the Ontario Hockey League.

CHANGE THAT GOAL

The Colorado Avalanche’s tying goal against the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday was scored by Marek Svatos, not Paul Stastny. The change was announced Thursday and gave assists to Stastny and Wojtek Wolski. Svatos’ early third-period power play goal sent the game into overtime, and the Avalanche won in a shootout.

WELCOME BACK

Former coach Denis Savard is back with the Chicago Blackhawks. A Hockey Hall of Famer and one of the franchise’s most popular figures, Savard returned to the organization as a team ambassador on Thursday after being fired as coach last month. He joins former Blackhawks Tony Esposito, Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita in the community relations role.

ROOKIE UPRISING

Pittsburgh rookie Alex Goligoski scored on his first NHL shootout attempt, and netted the only goal in the tiebreaker to lift the Penguins to a 5-4 comeback victory over the Philadelphia Flyers. … Islanders rookie Josh Bailey, who made his NHL debut on Tuesday, recorded his first point when he set up Kyle Okposo’s power-play goal in New York’s 3-1 win at Ottawa.

STREAKS

The Boston Bruins finally figured out the Montreal Canadiens. Manny Fernandez made 27 saves and the Bruins snapped an 0-10-2 skid against the Canadiens with a 6-1 home win Thursday night. Including a playoff series loss last season, Boston hadn’t beaten the Canadiens since a 3-1 victory on March 3, 2007. The Bruins extended their winning streak to five games and won for the eighth time in nine contests. … Detroit’s Chris Osgood made 15 saves in a 4-3 victory Thursday night to improve to 17-0 against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

SPEAKING

“I think they just wanted it more. They had more of a fight and they put in the effort, and we didn’t.”—Canadiens goalie Carey Price after the Boston Bruins snapped a 12-game skid (0-10-2) against Montreal with a 6-1 home victory on Thursday night.
