Friday's best NHL bets

Pittsburgh Penguins at Buffalo Sabres (-105, 5.5)

The Pens proved just how dangerous their offense is with five unanswered goals against the Islanders Wednesday. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin led the charge combining for four goals and three assists.

Goaltenders Dany Sabourin and John Curry split time in that win after Sabourin was yanked for allowing three goals on 14 shots. Curry stepped in for his NHL debut and stayed solid facing 11 shots in the final period and a half. He could get the nod Friday with stater Marc-Andre Fleury is still dinged up with lower body injury.

Buffalo snapped a five-game skid with a 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins Wednesday. The Sabres are scoring just two goals a night during this stretch. Even if Pittsburgh's goaltending is subject, the Penguins will be able to outgun their opponents.

Pick: Pittsburgh

San Jose Sharks at Dallas Stars (+110, 5.5)

Sharks goaltender Evgeni Nabokov didn't appear rusty after missing over two weeks with a lower body injury. He was back between the pipes for the Sharks 3-2 overtime win against the Chicago Blackhawks Wednesday. Nabokov stopped 24 shots for his 11th win of the season.

The Sharks offense sputtered in the victory. They have scored over five goals a game during their current five-game winning streak, getting a good chunk of those from Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau.

Dallas was edged 2-1 when it last played San Jose November 8. The Stars picked up just their second win in eight games with a 4-3 win over the Minnesota Wild. They're still without winger Brenden Morrow, who will be out for as many as six months with a torn ACL.

Pick: San Jose

NHL FORECAST - Nov 28th
by Ron Raymond

NY Islanders vs. Boston

The Islanders have been a pesky team of late and are playing inspired hockey. However, the Bruins are coming off a lost to the Sabres and it should be a young rowdy crowd at the Gardens this afternoon. When BOSTON team played as a home team - During the month of November - After a conference game - Coming off vs Northeast division opponent; The Bruins are 16-2-1 SU in this role since '96.

Prediction: Boston 4 NYI 2

Tampa Bay vs. Minnesota

The Wild are stuck in neutral of late and when you get no goal production from your forwards, you can't always depend on Backstrom to bail you out. When TAMPA BAY team played as a Road team - Vs Northwest opponent - Last 4 years; The Lightning are 8-4 SU in this spot L4Y.

Prediction: Tampa Bay 4 Minnesota 2

Colorado vs. Phoenix

Budaj is 6-1 lifetime vs. Phoenix and Tellqvist is my only concern this evening. However, the Coyotes are coming off a long extended road trip on the east coast, so I'm hoping the Avs have fresher legs in this one. Plus, when COLORADO team played as a Road team - With 1 day off - Total is 5.5 - Coming off 2 unders; The Avs are 9-4-2 SU in this spot.

Prediction: Colorado 3 Phoenix 2
