Rick Tocchet lost his first game as Tampa Bay’s coach, a 3-2 shootout loss to Carolina. Tocchet became a head coach for the first time when Barry Melrose was fired Friday. Darryl Sydor returned to the Dallas Stars on Sunday in a trade of veteran defensemen that sent Philippe Boucher to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 36-year-old Sydor played with Dallas from 1995-2003, helping the Stars win the Stanley Cup in 1998-99.

Ryan Russell scored three goals—two short-handed—to help the Hamilton Bulldogs (Canadiens) beat the Rochester Americans (Panthers) 5-2 on Sunday in the American Hockey League. Matt D’Agostini also had a short-handed goal for the Bulldogs.
