SALUTE

The New York Rangers honored Hall of Famers Harry Howell and Andy Bathgate on Sunday night, retiring Howell’s No. 3 and Bathgate’s No. 9 before their 3-2 overtime loss to Toronto. Bathgate will share his No. 9 in the rafters with Adam Graves, a member of the 1994 Stanley Cup championship team whose version of No. 9 also was retired this month.

SCOUTING

Edmonton first-round pick Jordan Eberle scored the winning goal and had three assists in the Regina Pats’ 4-1 victory in Moose Jaw on Sunday night in the WHL. … Fellow Edmonton prospect Philippe Cornet helped the Rimouski Oceanic win their 14th straight game, scoring in regulation and adding the deciding shootout goal in a 6-5 road victory Sunday over QMJHL-leading Drummondville.

SPEAKING

“What I can say about him? He is a good player, but he talks too much.”— Washington star Alex Ovechkin on Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby after the Capitals’ 5-2 victory over the Penguins on Sunday.

“Like it or lump it, that’s what he does. Some people like it, some people don’t. Personally, I don’t like it.”—Crosby on Ovechkin’s theatrics, which included a “bye-bye” wave in the final minute of the second period.
