NHL Forecast November 2nd
by Ron Raymond

Edmonton vs. Philadelphia

When the Oilers are a road team playing their 3rd game in 4 days, total is 5.5 and the allowed 1 or fewer goals against in their last game, they are 7-3-1 in their next contest. Ethan Moreau jumped start the Oilers to victory yesterday afternoon and it could have been the spark the team needed to get the train back on the rails.

Prediction: Edmonton 4 Philadelphia 3

Toronto vs. Carolina

The Leafs just keep winning and make guys like us look bad in the process. However, they are in a bad spot here today off an emotional 5-2 victory over the Rangers at home in front of a big TV national audience. Now, they must weather the storm against the Canes who were embarrassed 3-1 yesterday against the Oilers and look for Eric Staal to have a big game, as he stunk up the joint yesterday. Leafs keep it close again!

Prediction: Carolina 3 Toronto 2

Florida vs. Carolina

How bad are the Florida Panthers to make the Thrashers a -120 home favorite vs. the Panthers? When Atlanta is a home team, before a conference game, playing in back to back games and it's their 3rd game in 4 nights; The Thrashers are 2-8-1 SU in this spot since 1999. Vokoun should be back between the pipes tonight for the Panthers and I just can't bet on these uninterested Atlanta players.

Prediction: Florida 4 Atlanta 3

San Jose vs. Colorado

It's tough to go against the Avalanche at home on Sunday games, as they are 12-2 SU in this role the last 2 years and 13-3 SU the last 3 years. The Avs are stuck in neutral on offense, scoring only 4 goals in 3 games. However, the line value is too good to pass up on a team with great leaders like Sakic and Smyth on it and the Avs are 11-1 SU at home coming off vs. Western Conference opponent on 2 days rest and allowed 4 goals against in their last game. Good teams don?t go on long losing streak and the Avs are a decent team. Bounce back game for Colorado!

Prediction: Colorado 4 San Jose 2

Calgary vs. Anaheim

Nothing like a duck pond to have a cold shower thrown on you and that?s what I feel will happen tonight for the Flames who are coming off a close call in LA last evening. The Flames have not won a regular season game in Anaheim since January 19th 2004 and they are 2-11-2 SU in their last 15 trips to the Honda Center. Flames are caught in back to back games, 3 games in 4 nights and the pressure of the must win game is not present for them in this case this evening. Ducks are well rested and Selanne is tickling the twain on a regular basis again.

Prediction: Anaheim 3 Calgary 1

Detroit vs. Vancouver

Consistency is missing on this Canucks team; they are 2-11 SU as a Home Dog after a conference game and coming off a 1 goal win. The Red Wings are one of those teams that can explode for 3 goals at any given time during a game and to get them at a buck thirty vs. a Vancouver team who plays in high scoring games, is a bargain in my view.

Prediction: Detroit 3 Vancouver 2
