SCOREBOARD

Thursday, Nov. 20

Pittsburgh at Atlanta (7 p.m. EST). The Penguins visit the Thrashers, the team that sent them star forward Marian Hossa at last season’s trade deadline. Hossa helped Pittsburgh reach the Stanley Cup finals before leaving for the champion Red Wings as a free agent.

STARS

Wednesday

— Alex Burrows, Canucks, scored two of Vancouver’s five goals against Henrik Lundqvist in a 6-3 win over the Rangers.

— Kyle Wellwood, Canucks, scored his eighth goal on 21 shots this season in a 6-3 rout of the Rangers. Wellwood has an NHL-best shooting percentage of 38.1 percent.

— Zdeno Chara and Chuck Kobasew, Bruins, each scored two goals in a 7-4 win over Buffalo.

— Alex Ovechkin, Capitals, extended his goal streak to five games and added three assists in a 6-4 win over the Ducks. Ovechkin has 14 points in his last five games.

SHORT NIGHT

A matchup of Vezina Trophy favorites Henrik Lundqvist and Roberto Luongo fizzled when the New York netminder was yanked 5:33 into the second period after allowing five goals on 17 shots in the Canucks’ 6-3 win over New York. Luongo made a season-high 39 saves for Vancouver.

SAVARD SCORES

Marc Savard had a goal and three assists to help Boston rally from a 4-2 deficit for a 7-4 win over the Sabres. Savard figured into four of Boston’s five unanswered goals, giving him 600 points in his career.

SANS SEMIN

Washington played without Alexander Semin in its 6-4 win over Anaheim. Semin missed his second consecutive game because of an undisclosed upper-body injury. Sergei Fedorov missed his sixth straight with a sprained ankle, as did Shaone Morrisonn due to a groin injury.

STATS

Roberto Luongo made his 14th straight start for Vancouver, but had a streak of allowing fewer than three goals snapped at six—a stretch that included three of his NHL-leading five shutouts. … Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron scored his 200th NHL point with his first of two second-period assists. … The Capitals have scored at least one goal in 14 consecutive regulation periods.

STREAKS

The Bruins beat the Sabres 7-4 for their seventh win in eight games. Boston last lost in regulation on Oct. 30 in Calgary. … Buffalo has dropped three straight and four of five. … Vancouver’s 6-3 win over the Rangers was their fifth victory in seven games (5-0-2). … The Capitals’ 6-4 win over Anaheim was their sixth in seven games. Washington is 15-0-1 in the last 16 games in which Alex Ovechkin has scored a goal, and 25-3-2 in the last 30 such games.

SPEAKING

“He was alone himself a couple of times. There was nobody to be seen. He is a great goalie, but not a great defenseman. He can’t break it up, too.”— Rangers coach Tom Renney on goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who was battered for five goals on 17 shots in Vancouver’s 6-3 win.

NHL Forecast for Thursday Nov 20th
by Ron Raymond

Florida vs. New Jersey

The Panthers are coming off a 4-3 win over Tampa Bay, a game they led 3-0 and allowed the lighting to tie it up at 3-3. The Panthers are 3-7 SU on the road this season and the Devils are 11-4 SU at home vs. Florida in their last 15 meetings. When NEW JERSEY team played as Home team as a Favorite - Last 5 years - Coming off vs. Southeast division opponent; The Devils are 32-8-1 SU in this role L5Y.

Prediction: New Jersey 4 Florida 3

Pittsburgh vs. Atlanta

The Thrashers are buying into John Andersons system and its showing up in the standings, as they are now 4-1 in their last 5 games and are 5-3 on home ice. Pittsburgh are coming off a 2-1 lost to the Wild after their 6 game winning streak and will be without Fleury tonight. When ANY NHL Team played as a home team (ATL) - Before a non division game - During the month of November - Total is 5.5 - Coming off vs. Atlantic division opponent - Coming off a Road loss as a Underdog; The Home Team is 13-3-2 SU in this spot since 96.

Prediction: Atlanta 3 Pittsburgh 2

Detroit vs. Edmonton

The Oilers rebounded nicely vs. the Blue Jackets and credit to the players for picking up their game after the coach ripped Penner. Can they keep it up against the RED WINGS tonight? The Oilers have won 4 of their last 5 meetings with the Red Wings at the REXALL Centre, but 3 games in 4 nights is too much to ask for against a high powered unit like the Red Wings. When DETROIT team played as a Road team - playing on Thursday - Coming off vs. Northwest division opponent; The Red Wings are 15-3-1 in this role since 96.

Prediction: Detroit 4 Edmonton 3
