Tuesday's Best NHL Bets

Calgary Flames at Ottawa Senators (-145, 5)

The Senators were one of the hottest teams in the league when they showed up in Toronto to face the Maple Leafs Saturday night, but it sure didn’t show on the ice. Ottawa, who had won a franchise-high 11 games in a row, was destroyed 5-0 by a determined Leafs club.

But the Senators aren’t letting it bring them down.

“If anything, it’s a bit of humility. Gets us ready for the next one,” centre Jason Spezza told the Ottawa Sun. “We’ve been playing great and things have been going real well, but you’re going to have bumps along the road. This happened to be it and we’re embarrassed by it. But we’ve just got to bounce back.”

Before Saturday’s loss to Toronto, Ottawa hadn’t allowed more than two goals a game and had outscored opposing teams 37-13 over its 11-game wining streak. Not surprisingly, the Senators have gone under the total in nine of those 11 outings.

The Flames have been playing much better since acquiring Ales Kotalik and Niklas Hagman in separate trades last week. After a dismal 2-9-3 stretch, Calgary has won two of its last three and hasn’t allowed more than one regulation goal in each of those contests.

Pick: Under

Boston Bruins at Buffalo Sabres (-150, 5)

The Boston Bruins managed to earn their first win in 11 games Sunday afternoon shutting out the Montreal Canadiens 3-0. Goalie Tuukka Rask was amazing, stopping all 36 sots fired at him, but the Bruins can thank Montreal for deflecting two shots into their own net.

“With what we've been going through the last little while, we were really hoping for a break to come our way,” Bruins head coach Claude Julien told the Canadian Press. “It's true, we had some luck tonight and that's what got us the win our whole team was looking for. After 10 losses, it was something we were hoping to see soon.”

Prior to that, Boston hadn’t scored more than two goals in nine of its last 11 games, racking up a total of only 11 goals during that span.

The Buffalo Sabres haven’t been lighting the world on fire either with four consecutive losses. But after a three-day rest, expect the Sabres to get back to their winning ways.

Pick: Sabres
