SCOREBOARD

Tuesday, Nov. 4

Minnesota at San Jose (10:30 p.m. EST). San Jose looks to improve to 7-0-0 at home in a matchup of two of the top teams in the Western Conference. Minnesota is 4-10 on the road this season.

STARS

Monday

— Patrick Sharp and Andrew Ladd, Blackhawks, each had two goals and an assist as Chicago beat Colorado 6-2 for its third straight victory.

— Ryan Miller, Sabres, made 24 saves and registered his second straight shutout in Buffalo’s 2-0 victory over New Jersey.

— Chris Campoli, Islanders, had his first two goals in nearly a year to help New York beat Columbus 4-3 in overtime.

TOUGH JOB

Kevin Weekes made 28 saves filling in for Martin Brodeur, but the New Jersey Devils lost 2-0 to the Buffalo Sabres. A four-time Vezina Trophy winner, Brodeur suffered a bruised elbow on Saturday. His absence Monday marked the first time in 57 games dating to last season that he did not start. It also marked only the 21st time in his 15-year career that he did not dress for a game.

IF AT FIRST YOU DON’T SUCCEED

Chris Campoli, derailed by shoulder injuries in consecutive seasons, scored his first two goals in nearly a year in the New York Islanders’ 4-3 overtime victory over Columbus. In a wacky overtime sequence, Campoli got to a loose puck after teammate Mike Comrie lost it in the Columbus zone and fired a shot past Fredrik Norrena. Play continued as the defenseman celebrated prematurely and then waved his arms to signal that he scored, to no avail. He then took a pass in the slot and drilled another shot into the center of the net.

SURGING

The Chicago Blackhawks beat Colorado 6-2 on Monday night for their third straight victory. Patrick Sharp and Andrew Ladd each had two goals and an assist, and Troy Brouwer and Cam Barker also scored for Chicago, which improved to 6-3-3.

SPEAKING

“So far we’ve been pretty good at home. Something we’ve stressed as a team is to make it hard for other teams to come into this building.”—Chicago left wing Andrew Ladd after the Blackhawks beat the Colorado Avalanche 6-2 to remain unbeaten in regulation at home (5-0-2).

NHL Forecast for November 4th
by Ron Raymond

NY Islanders vs. NY Rangers

The Rangers will need to come out swinging, as they were embarrassed in front of a national audience on Saturday night and gave up a 2-0 lead in the third period and last 5-2 vs. the Maple Leafs. The Islanders are going to be a tired bunch this evening, they are playing their 3rd game in 4 nights have blow big leads in their last 2 games. The Islanders have surprised the bookmakers in the past, as they are 7-3 SU as a road underdog in their last 10 trips to MSG. Without DiPietro in nets, I don't see them winning this one tonight.

Prediction: NY Rangers 4 NY Islanders 2

Carolina vs. Toronto

The Canes won game 1 of their back to back meeting with the Leafs on Sunday and game 2 is at the ACC tonight in Toronto. However, different goaltending battle this evening, as it looks like Cam Ward will be in nets for Carolina and Vesa Toskala for the Buds. Great NHL system on the Canes and it goes like this; When ANY NHL Team played as a Road team - Before a conference game - Last 2 years - During the month of November - Coming off a 1 game win - Allowed 4 or less goals AGAINST in their last game and coming off a 2 game Home stand; The Road Team is 13-5 SU in their next game.

Prediction: Carolina 3 Toronto 2

Washington vs. Toronto

The Ottawa Senators don't look like the same team from years past that dominated other teams in their building and they've struggled at home winning only 1 game in 5 attempts. Ottawa is a one line team and Hartsburgh doesn't even keep them together! Ottawa Secondary scoring is missing in Ottawa, guys like Neil, Vermette, and Fisher have been invisible on most nights and the Sens have no identity on defense. Let me put it this way, their top producing defenseman is a guy named Alexandre Picard who played 24 games in the NHL last season. Bad news for the Sens, Ovechkin is back and Washington will want to erase their 5-0 whipping from Buffalo on Saturday night.

Prediction: Washington 4 Ottawa 2

Nashville vs. Vancouver

The Predators are not getting consistent goaltending and that explains their Jekyll and Hyde record. The Preds are a great team to play on at home, but when they are on the road, you really have to pick your spots with Trotz's guys. Tuesday is a nice night for the Canucks to play hockey, they are 17-4-2 SU since 1997, as a Home Favorite - playing on Tuesday - Vs Conference Opponent.

Prediction: Vancouver 3 Nashville 1

Phoenix vs. Calgary

Early line movement has seen the cash come in on the Coyotes, but Kiprusoff is 9-3 SU vs. Phoenix during regular season games and the Flames are 9-2 SU as a home favorite L4Y when they've seen the UNDER come in on 5 and more games. After Shane Doan, who else is suppose to step up in big road games in tough places like Calgary, Edmonton and Anaheim?

Prediction: Calgary 3 vs. Phoenix 1

Minnesota vs. San Jose

After watching the Montreal vs. Minnesota Wild game, I have no idea who's going to provide scoring for this Minnesota team when Gaborik is not in the line up! Minnesota is a bit like New Jersey, they rely too heavily on their goaltending and visiting a team like San Jose who's won 6 in a row, is not a good spot for Lemaire's squad. As stated, this is a bad spot for Minnesota, they are 2-8 SU L2Y as a Road Underdog - Total is 5.0 and coming off a 1 game win.

Prediction: San Jose 4 Minnesota 0

Anaheim vs. LA Kings

The last time the Ducks played at the Staples Center on October 14th, it was their 3rd lost in their 4 game losing streak at the beginning of the season and they will want revenge on that 6-3 thumping they took that night. Ducks have turned things around and Selanne is on fire! Seems the Kings will give their work horse goalie Labarbera a night off and go with their Swedish goaltender Ersberg. Here's one of my 80% Club Stats on the Ducks; when Anaheim is a road favorite the last 5 years and they are coming off a 1 goal win; they are 13-2 SU in their next game.

Prediction: Anaheim 3 LA Kings 2

Hockey Tips

When TORONTO team Played as Home team as a Favorite - Before a conference game - 3 games in 4 nights - Coming off a Road loss as a Underdog; The Leafs are 9-1-1 (SU) in this spot since 1998.

When NY RANGERS team played as a home team - Before a conference game - Scored 2 goals FOR in their last game - Coming off vs Northeast division opponent; The OVER is 8-2-2 for the NY Rangers in this spot since '96.

When ANY NHL Team Played as Road team as a Underdog - before a division game - Last 2 years - Coming off a Road win as a Underdog - Coming off a 1 game win; The UNDER is 12-3-3 for the Road Dog (MIN) in this situation L2Y.

When ANAHEIM team Played as Road team as a Favorite - Last 5 years - Coming off a 1 goal win; The Ducks are 13-2 (SU) in this role Last 5 Years.
