SCOREBOARD

Wednesday, March 25

Ottawa at Carolina (7 p.m. EDT). The Senators head to Carolina on a four-game winning streak and a run in which they’ve won nine of 10 as they try to get back into the Eastern Conference playoff race.

STARS

Tuesday

— Alex Ovechkin, Capitals, scored his league-leading 51st goal in Washington’s 3-2 shootout loss at Toronto.

— Nikolai Zherdev, Rangers, had a goal and an assist to lead New York to a 2-1 victory over Minnesota.

— Roberto Luongo, Canucks, stopped 35 shots to help Vancouver beat Dallas 5-2.

— Alex Tanguay, Canadiens, had two goals and three assists and Montreal beat Atlanta 6-3 to end a five-game skid.

— Martin St. Louis, Lightning, scored with 1:56 left in overtime to give Tampa Bay a 2-1 victory over Columbus.

— Chris Mason, Blues, made 22 saves for his fifth shutout of the season, leading St. Louis to a 2-0 over Los Angeles.

HIM AGAIN

Teemu Selanne lifted the Anaheim Ducks to a crucial win over the Nashville Predators for the second time in a week. Selanne scored the only shootout goal and the Ducks beat the Predators 2-1 on Tuesday night. Anaheim climbed over Nashville into eighth place in the Western Conference with its fourth consecutive victory. Anaheim’s winning streak started when Selanne scored a power-play goal in overtime to give the Ducks a 4-3 win over the Predators last Wednesday.

NICE LINE

Montreal beat the Atlanta Thrashers 6-3 to end a five-game skid, getting a terrific night from one of its top lines. Alex Tanguay had two goals and three assists, Alex Kovalev had two goals and an assist and Saku Koivu had a goal and two assists on a newly formed line that produced 11 points.

CRAZY FINISH

Curtis Joseph stopped eight shots in overtime and Washington’s three shootout chances after entering the game late in the third period, leading the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 3-2 victory over the Washington Capitals. Joseph replaced Martin Gerber with 56 seconds left in the third period after the Toronto goalie was ejected for pushing referee Mike Leggo and shooting a puck in his direction. Gerber was upset after Brooks Laich stuffed the puck under him to tie it at 2.

SPEAKING

“I’d say that feels worse than losing 10-2. Especially at this point of the season with the way we have been playing and who we were playing tonight. That one stings.”—Oilers forward Dustin Penner after Detroit scored three goals in the third period of a 3-2 win at Edmonton.
