Inexperienced Miner’s Escape Has Long Odds to Win
The 2009 Belmont Stakes runs today and coming out of the ninth position is 3-year-old colt Miner’s Escape, who is considered a long shot to win at Belmont Park.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction have made Miner’s Escape a 20/1 long shot to win the 141st running of the Belmont Stakes. Along with Brave Victory and Luv Gov, Miner’s Escape has the longest odds to win the third leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown.
A brief history on Miner’s Escape paints an intriguing picture for bettors who like the long shot to win the Belmont. After pacing fourth at the February 14 Maiden Special Weight, he won his next crack at the Maiden on March 14. He backed up that performance with a victory at the Federico Tesio on May 2, which was his last race.
The knock on Miner’s Escape is that he hasn’t faced much tough competition this year. The Federico Tesio was his hardest race and obviously he didn’t face the same competition as he would had he competed at the Kentucky Derby or the Preakness. But that could also work in his favor, since his training wasn’t as intense for the Federico Tesio as it would have been for the Kentucky Derby or Preakness.
Miner’s Escape will have his work cut out for him come post time on Saturday, but that’s not to say the inexperienced thoroughbred is dead in the water either. He’s well rested compared to some of the horses with better odds and could be an intriguing value pick.
