2009 Tour de France Odds to Win
The 96th running of the Tour de France will begin July 4 and while cycling legend Lance Armstrong is competing this year, he’s not the favorite according to oddsmakers.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction, Alberto Contador is an 11/10 favorite to win this year’s Tour de France. His odds best (among others) Lance Armstrong (4/1), Andy Schleck (7/1), Cadel Evans (9/1) and Denis Menchov (14/1).
The 26-year old Contador, from Spain, won the 2007 Tour de France by claiming State 14, beating out Evans, who finished in second place, and American Levi Leipheimer, who finished third.
Nobody has more Tour de France victories than Armstrong, who has seven. All of those victories came in succession, winning all seven between 1999 and 2005. At age 37, he might not be considered the favorite to win this year’s Tour, but he offers quite a value for bettors at 4/1 odds.
Speaking of value, the highly volatile “Cuddles” Evans offers solid odds at 9/1 to win. He was the runner up in both the 2008 and 2007 Tour de Frances and won one stage of the 2007 race. At this point in both of their careers, Evans seemingly would offer more value at 9/1 than Armstrong does at 4/1.
The Tour de France will begin on July 4 and wrap up July 26. The cyclists will cover 2,141 miles and go through 21 stages of the event. For complete odds on the 96th running of the Tour de France, see below.
