Drosselmeyer Info:
Owner(s): WinStar Farms LLC
Trainer: William I. Mott
Jockey: Mike Smith
Bred: Kentucky (USA)
Pedigree: Distorted Humor – Golden Ballet
Opening Odds:
Drosselmeyer opened with mid-range odds at 12/1 and that’s where he currently sits, according to oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com.
Post Position:
The 3-year-old colt will start out of the No. 7 post, which has had a fair amount of success at the Belmont Stakes over the years. The No. 7 position has produced 12 winners, compared to 23 for the rail and 13 apiece for the No. 3 and No. 5 posts.
Overview:
Although he didn’t compete at either the Kentucky Derby or the Preakness Stakes, Drosselmeyer has had good runs so far this year. He finished second behind fellow Belmont contender Fly Down at the G2 Dwyer and third behind Mission Impazible and A Little Warm at the G2 Louisiana Derby on March 27. He also ran fourth at the G2 Risen Star and won the January 31 Allowance. Mike Smith will mount Drosselmeyer this Saturday, who is a legend that has collected 13 Breeders’ Cup victories. If he wins at Belmont Park, he’ll complete a career Triple Crown. He knows the track well and should provide an upgrade over Drosselmeyer’s former jockey, Kent Desormeaux, who didn’t seem to develop chemistry with the thoroughbred.
