2010 PGA Players Championship Odds To Win – Tiger Woods Favored

Tiger Woods has something to play for his week as he looks to fend off Phil Mickelson from the top spot in the world rankings as both play in the 2010 Players Championship.

If Mickelson wins this week’s tournament, which starts on Thursday, and Woods finishes outside the top five, Mickelson will become the No. 1 golfer in the world rankings, ending a five year reign for Woods.

The odds are a little closer this week than usual, but Woods is still favored to win the tournament this week.

Woods has been given 7/1 odds win according to the online sports book Sports Interaction. Other short odds to win are Mickelson (8/1), Jim Furyk (20/1), Ernie Els (22/1), and Rory McIlroy (22/1).
Woods won this event in 2001 and finished eighth a year ago, but he finished outside the top 20 the previous two times he competed in the tournament. Woods is coming off one of the worst outings he has had as a pro, as he missed the cut in the Quail Hollow Championship. Woods hasn’t missed back-to-back cuts as a pro and he had finished in the top 11 in his last 10 tournaments prior to last weekend.

Mickelson won this event in 2007 and he is coming off a win in the Masters and a second place finish last weekend. Mickelson has made his last 22 cuts and won three events during that stretch with eight top 10’s.

Furyk finished fifth in this event a year ago and third in 2006. Furyk has won three of his last 10 events and finished in the top 10 in eight of his last 14 outings.

Els finished sixth in this event in 2008 and eighth in 2006. He has made his last 17 cuts which includes two wins and seven top 10’s.

McIlroy finished 126th in this event a year ago but is coming off his first professional win last weekend. Prior to that, McIlroy had missed his last two cuts and hadn’t finished in the top 10 in five straight events.
