2010 Preakness Odds – Lookin at Lucky has short odds at 4/1 to Win
Kentucky Derby favorite Lookin at Lucky hopes to bounce back this weekend when he takes on the field at the 2010 Preakness Stakes.
Race History
Despite being a pre-race favorite, Lookin at Lucky finished a disappointing sixth at the Kentucky Derby on May 1. He does have wins at the G2 Rebel on March 13, as well as wins at the G1 CashCall Futurity on December 19 of last year, as well as at the G1 Norfolk (October 4, 2009) and the G1 Del Mar Futurity (September 7, 2009).
Opening Odds
Lookin at Lucky opened at 4/1 to win the 135th running of the Preakness Stakes according to oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction. His odds place him behind favorite Super Saver and Paddy O’prado, who are 2/1 and 3/1 respectively.
Early Analysis
Although he isn’t coming off a sharp prep and has not broken the 100 Beyer mark, there are plenty of reasons to believe that Lookin at Lucky is due for a comeback this Saturday. One, he’ll have a significantly better post position in the Preakness than he did at the Derby, where he had the misfortune of drawing the rail position. He had to fight through considerable traffic the entire race and never recovered. While we don’t want to make excuses for the Derby favorite, Lookin at Lucky should find life easier starting in the No. 7 spot. He has stakes wins in each of the last two years, can stalk or come from off the pace and owner Bob Baffert rid himself of jockey Garrett Gomez, who appeared to be a mismatch riding Lookin at Lucky. Gomez is one of the elite riders, but Baffert realized that something wasn’t clicking and switched to Martin Garcia for the Preakness. Will the change produce a victory? Don’t count Lookin at Lucky out this Saturday.
