For this bet, each time an individual golfer plays he has an opportunity to win a point in each match. In team matches, the winning players from each team are considered to have scored a point despite the actual team winning just one point. The maximum points a player can earn is 5.

For the European team, Rory McIlroy is the favorite to score the most points according to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com. McIlroy has 5/1 odds to lead the team in scoring. Other short odds to score the most are Martin Kaymer (6/1) and Lee Westwood (6/1).

McIlroy is making his first appearance in a Ryder Cup this weekend. The 21-year old has garnered a lot of buzz in the golf world, but he has just two wins in his career. McIlroy is currently ranked ninth in the world.

Kaymer is also making his Ryder Cup debut. At 25, Kaymer is coming off a win in the 2010 PGA Championship this year and he has 15 professional wins in his career. Kaymer currently ranks sixth in the world rankings.

Westwood is ranked third in the world, tops of any European player. Westwood is appearing in his seventh Ryder Cup, most of any player on the team. Westwood is 14-10-5 in Ryder Cup matches, earning a total of 16.5 points in his six events, which is an average of 2.75 points per Ryder Cup.
