Rose won this tournament back in 2010. He is currently 10th in the world rankings. Rose has placed in the top 15 in five of his last seven tournaments.

Spieth is ninth in the world rankings. He has finished in the top 20 in eight of his last 10 tournaments, but is seeking his first win of the year. He finished sixth in this event last year.

Tour heads to Congressional
By Sportsbook

Tournament: Quicken Loans National
Date: June 26-29, 2014
Venue: Congressional Country Club - Blue Course
Location: Bethesda, Maryland

The PGA Tour takes its skills to Maryland for the Quicken Loans National this weekend, as the players are coming off an exciting tournament in the Travelers Championship where Kevin Streelman shot two consecutive 64’s to finish with a one-shot victory over Sergio Garcia and K.J. Choi. This tourney is fairly new and has been hosted by Tiger Woods and his foundation since it started in 2007 while formally being sponsored by AT&T. Last year, veteran Bill Haas dominated this par-71, 7,569-yard course, shooting a 68 or better in each of his final three rounds and finishing 12-under; three strokes better than runner-up Roberto Castro.

The big news this week is the return of Woods, who is a two-time winner at this tournament and has seen his world ranking drop to fourth during his injury absence. Woods will light a fire under the rest of the players on tour this week, so let’s take a look at a few guys who could take him head-on at his own tournament and come away with a victory.

Golfers to Watch

Justin Rose (15/1): Rose has not played in this tournament since 2011, but he won it back in 2010 and followed that up with a solid 15th-place finish the next year. He has played in just 12 PGA events this year, finishing in the top-10 five times, but failing to crack the top-3 yet. He’s had an impressive scoring average (70.02, 18th on tour) while also being amazing out of the sand (61.1%, 5th on tour). Rose is due for a big performance and is playing on a course that he has won on before.

Jason Day (25/2): Day has placed in the top-25 in his past three tries at this tournament and the 7th-ranked player in the world has five like finishes in seven tourneys this year; including one victory and one runner-up performance. He has an amazing scoring average of 69.57 so far this season, and looks poised to grab his third career PGA Tour victory very soon.

Brandt Snedeker (25/1): Snedeker is another player who has positive experiences in this tournament, finishing in the top-16 three different times; including an 8th-place showing here last year. He has not been having his best season in 2014, but recently placed ninth at the U.S. Open and followed that up with an 11th-place finish last week at the Travelers Championship. The six-time winner on the PGA Tour has too much pedigree and experience to not grab a win sometime in the near future.

Bill Haas (30/1): Haas was the victor here last season and had placed in 34th in each of the previous two seasons. The 32-year-old has made the cut in every event he has finished already this year while finishing in the top-10 three times. He has used his amazing ability to save from the sand (60.8%, 8th on tour) to keep him in contention most weekends, and Haas should be a solid bet to be near the top of the leaderboard at week’s end as he looks to repeat his Quicken Loans National title.

Brian Harman (70/1): Harman has been having the best season of his young career as he currently ranks 42nd in the FedEx Cup standings while already having seven top-25 performances in 22 starts this year. He placed 6th in the St. Jude Classic earlier this month and has been one of the best par-3 performers this year, scoring a birdie or better 16.5% of the time (12th on tour). Harman has never won on the PGA Tour, but with a fairly weak field this weekend, he has a good chance to pay off in a big way.

Quicken Loans National Preview and Picks
By Matt Fargo
Covers.com

One of the best finishes by a player in a long time took place last week as Kevin Streelman birdied his final seven holes en route to a final round 64 to win by one shot over K.J. Choi and Sergio Garcia to claim the Travelers Championship. This week, we head to famed Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD for the Quicken Loans National. This is the sixth time that Congressional has hosted this event but just the third time since renovations took place prior to the 2011 U.S. Open.

Before the renovations, Congressional was a relatively easy track but that is not the case after the USGA took over. Out of 49 venues two years ago, Congressional ranked as the third toughest course, and toughest of non-Majors, at +2.036 over par. It was also the hardest par 71 course on tour and last year came in as the second toughest par 71 at +1.124 over par. All facets of the game are difficult as putting, scrambling, greens hit and driving accuracy all ranked 14th or lower for a second straight year.

The headline of course is Tiger Woods making his return after close to four months off with a back injury. He sat out this event last year after winning in 2012, his second victory here in which his foundation is the host. Past history here is limited while the layout has changed as have the surface of the greens, therefore it is more favorable to look at current form as the biggest factor heading into this week. A look into the last two years finishes also helps.

The field is thinned out somewhat with the BMW International Open highlighting the European Tour this week. Overall, there are just three players ranked within the OWGR Top Ten, Woods, Jordan Spieth and Justin Rose, 9 of the top 30 and 13 of the top 50.

Brandt Snedeker (+2,500) has had a tough season after getting injured in China back in November but he is starting to round back into form. He is coming off a T9 and T11 in his last two starts and he has had plenty of success here at Congressional. He finished T8 in 2013 and T5 in 2009 in his last two starts here in this event as well as a T11 at the 2011 U.S. Open.

Gary Woodland (+3,000) has not fared well in his last two starts at the Memorial and the U.S. Open, finishing T57 and T52 respectively but he has made 14 straight cuts going back to October. Included in there are four top tens and while he has not sniffed a win since late October, his driving ability can be huge here. He finished T16 in 2013 and T23 at the 2011 U.S. Open.

Brendon Todd (+3,500) has made a name for himself even though many people may not even know his name. He won the Byron Nelson in May and has followed that up with a T5, a T8 and a T17, the last being at the U.S. Open. After finishing 72nd at Congressional in 2012, he followed that up with a T13 last year despite an opening round 74. He is ranked 7th in strokes gained putting.

Billy Horschel (+4,000) seems to be finally coming around after a bad start to the season. He has made four straight cuts for the first time in 2014 which include a T15 at the Memorial and a T6 at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. Even though he finished T61 here last year, he says the course fits his eye very well. He is tied for fifth in ball striking which will benefit him huge here.

Robert Garrigus (+7,500) will be the longshot pick this week. Only two players in the field this week have made all seven starts here and made the cut in each, Charley Hoffman and Garrigus. He hasn't played since the FedEx St. Jude Classic citing a wrist injury but he is healthy and is another player claiming this course fits his eye. He finished T4 here in 2012 and T3 at the 2011 U.S. Open.
