2014 UFC on FOX 12 Odds for Robbie Lawler vs. Matt Brown
By Drew Sharper
SAN JOSE, CA (The Spread) – Two powerful UFC welterweights battle for the right to be the No. 1 contender in the main event of UFC on FOX 12 on Saturday night.
UFC on FOX 12 will take place from the SAP Center in San Jose, California with the main card bouts airing live on FOX at 8PM ET on Saturday.
The main event of Saturday’s card is for the top contender in the 170-pound division as Robbie Lawler (23-10) faces Matt Brown (19-11). According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Lawler is favored to win this fight, as he has odds of -365 to win, while Matt Brown has a money line of +275 to prevail. Lawler is 4-1 since returning to the UFC, with his lone loss a close decision to champion Johny Hendricks. He has shown great conditioning and a more aggressive style in the octagon. Lawler has big-time punching power and has shown good takedown defense. Matt Brown comes in riding a seven-fight win streak. He has a ruthless, aggressive style. He has won his last five by knockout. He has typically done well against fellow strikers and struggled with grapplers. However, Brown is making a big step up in competition with this bout and could be in over his head.
The co-main event of Saturday’s card is a light heavyweight clash between Anthony Johnson (17-4) and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (21-5). Oddsmakers have Johnson favored in this bout, as he has odds of -550 to win, while Nogueira has a money line of +375 to prevail. Johnson is on a seven-fight win streak. The former welterweight is now fighting at 205 pounds and his strength and power have carried over just fine. He manhandled Phil Davis in his last bout and looks like a legit threat in the division. Nogueira hasn’t fought in 17 months, but is riding a two-fight win streak. He is mostly a boxer, but has strong jiu-jitsu skills. However, getting into a slugfest with Johnson could be trouble.
