Belmont Stakes 142 Odds – Ice Box Favored by Oddsmakers at 2.5-1
After finishing second at the Kentucky Derby in early May, Ice Box has been established as the favorite to win the 142nd running of the Belmont Stakes this Saturday.
Ice Box Info:
Owner(s): Robert V. La Penta
Trainer: Nicholas P. Zito
Jockey: Jose Lezcano
Bred: Kentucky (USA)
Pedigree: Pulpit – Spice Island by Tabasco Cat
Opening Odds:
Ice Box was established as a 2/1 favorite when the opening odds were released earlier in the week and is now 2.5/1 to win, according to oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction.
Post Position:
Ice Box drew the No. 6 post when the positions were drawn on Wednesday. The No. 6 post has seven wins at the Belmont Stakes, compared to 23 for the rail position and 13 for the No. 3 and No. 5 posts, respectively.
Overview:
As previously mentioned, Ice Box finished second at the Kentucky Derby on May 1, edging out Paddy O’prado down the stretch. He also won the G1 Florida Derby on March 20 and finished fifth at the G2 Fountain of Youth on February 20. Twenty-five year old Jose Lezcano will ride Ice Box on Saturday. What’s most notably about Lezcano is that he won a Breeders’ Cup race in his first and only Cup mount. Given Ice Box’s sharp prep and the fact that Lezcano has winning experience, this appears to be a perfect match and it’s easy to see why the 3-year-old colt is the favorite entering Saturday’s race at Belmont Park.
