Belmont Stakes 142 Odds – Stately Victor 14-1 to Win
After a disappointing showing in the Kentucky Derby, contender Stately Victor will look to bounce back when he takes on the field at the 142nd running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday.
Stately Victor Info:
Owner(s): Thomas F. Conway
Trainer: Michael J. Maker
Jockey: Alan Garcia
Bred: Kentucky (USA)
Pedigree: Ghostzapper – Collect The Cash by Dynaformer
Opening Odds:
Stately Victor opened at 12/1 to win the Belmont Stakes, but has since dropped to 14/1 according to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com.
Post Position:
Stately Victor drew the No. 9 post position earlier this week. The No. 9 post has won as recently as 2005 when Alfeet Alex won the Belmont.
Overview:
The 3-year-old finished a disappointing 8th at the Kentucky Derby behind (among others) fellow Belmont contender Ice Box. What made Stately Victor’s finish most disappointing was the fact that he won the G1 Blue Grass on April 10, which was his last race before the Derby. Alan Garcia has the mount this Saturday, which is a good thing considering the 24-year-old won the 2008 Belmont Stakes aboard Da’Tara as won the of most unlikely wins in the race’s history. Da’Tara hadn’t won a race previous to the Belmont that year and was a long-shot to win in New York. Yet Garcia rode him to victory over the heavily favored Big Brown and could do it again aboard a more talented Stately Victor on Saturday.
