Saturday's Best Bet: Rideforthecause can go better at Gulfstream
By Jarrod Horak
April 17, 2020

Saturday’s 9th race from Gulfstream Park is an optional claiming event for fillies and mares traveling one mile on the turf course (Post Time - 4:53 p.m. ET).

#8 RIDEFORTHECAUSE (5-1) exits an even 4th in a similar local spot March 27. She cuts back a furlong and can move forward in her second start after a layoff. A stalking trip is expected.

#5 Always Shopping (4-1) makes her first start in more than eleven months for Todd Pletcher, and this is her first turf attempt. Her works are solid, and Pletcher is a strong layoff trainer, so the time off is really not an issue. The class is there and her tactical speed should serve her well. That leaves the new surface. Awesome Again is not a strong first turf sire, but her dam Stopshoppingmaria won the Ladies Turf Sprint Stakes at Gulfstream Park in 2013.

#4 Dark Artist (6-1) drops out of the stakes ranks and might attempt a wire job under sharp turf rider Hector Berrios. This is her first start in 6+ months and she has not scored since 2018.

#7 Mintd (10-1) got pace help in an entry level victory in her stateside bow at Tampa Bay March 7, and that was her first start in more than twenty months. The lightly raced 4-year-old filly has upside.

Wagers:

#8 to win

Exacta 8/4-5-7

Exacta 4-5-7/8

Trifecta 5-8/4-5-7-8/4-5-7-8

Recent Best Bet Winners

April 4 - KIMARI ($7.80), Exacta ($23.80)

April 6 - WHOLEHEARTED ($6.40)

April 11 - PROVERB ($7.60), Exacta ($33.60), Trifecta ($48.70)

April 15 - Blue Harbor/Mr. Tickle/Yo Y Me Trifecta ($127.50)

April 17 - Sekani/The Mary Rose/Choctaw Charlie Trifecta ($48.30)

My Gulfstream Park Late Pick 4 Ticket on Saturday

April 17, 2020 | By Jerry Shottenkirk

It’s hard to find an absolute standout in the Pick 4 Saturday at Gulfstream Park, which is good news for price shoppers. Each of the races from 9 through 12 can yield medium-sized payoffs and ultimately a healthy Pick 4 payoff.

You don’t need to have a handful of $20 winners to get to a big Pick 4 score. With four races that have favorites that should be of the “non odds-on” variety, it could be a worthwhile investment and experience, even if the favorites win.

Favorites appear on this suggested ticket, but there are several others that have a chance are included. Here’s a look at the Pick 4:

Race 9: Always Shopping makes her 1st appearance since May 17, when she ran 6th in the G2 Black Eyed Susan. She won the G2 Gazelle prior to that effort and has worked very well. The biggest challenge is the surface as she makes her initial turf appearance.
High Road comes in off a front-running turf win and her running lines have been very tough on the Gulfstream turf. If she can back up the pace at all, she’ll be tough to the end.
Zarina is another that’s usable, as she’s had some good performances locally – most notably a win in the Martha Washington and a runner-u in the Miss Gracie two back. Mintd won her only U.S. start (at Tampa) and was competitive in Ireland prior to her move her. Her Tampa win marked her first two-turn attempt.

Race 10: Perfect Revenge is back to Gulfstream after an unsuccessful run in the G2 Risen Star. He was claimed three back by Saffie Joseph, Jr., and followed with a 2nd at the same price. He’s back to that level and probably will return to good form.
Blood Moon gets Luis Saez, who likely will have design on getting the lead. He’s been lethal in that scenario and will give it a go from the inside. Dynadrive is worth a shot as he was 3rd vs. similar two back and 2nd in his latest. He was claimed by Mike Maker two back and is going from an off-the-turf race to a regularly scheduled dirt race.

Race 11
Miss Auramet, Lady Grace and Kitten’s Covergirl are among those ready to throw down going five furlongs on grass. Miss Auramet’s last two resulted in easy win, and while she takes a step up, she’s getting nothing but better and will force the issue every stride. Lady Grace also goes for her third straight win and takes a similar step up as Miss Auramet. If many are on the front end, Lady Grace would benefit as she has a good closing move. Kitten’s Covergirl is talented enough to be in the mix and like Lady Grace will likely have to succeed by following the leaders early on.

Race 12
The sequence ends with a bottom maiden-claiming race and Honest Gal could be the shortest price of the four races, but two droppers has legit chances at an upset.
Rye Street was claimed for $50,000 in her debut and runs for $12,500 in her second off that barn change. She has not been close in either of her races but has never seen anything close to this level. Major improvement can be expected.
Party Dress was claimed last time and takes a slight class drop. She pressed the pace last time and if she runs back to that effort could be difficult to catch.

Here’s a suggested play for the late Pick 4 Saturday at Gulfstream Park:
9) #1 High Road, #3 Zarina, #5 Always Shopping, #7 Mintd.
10) #2 Blood Moon, #5 Dynadrive, #8 Perfect Revenge.
11) #2 Miss Auramet, #7 Lady Grace, #9 Kitten’s Covergirl.
12) #4 Rye Street, #8 Party Dress, #10 Honest Gal.
50-cent Pick 4: 1-3-5-7 with 2-5-8 with 2-7-9 with 4-8-10 ($54).

Saturday, April 18: Eddie Olczyk's Oaklawn Late Pick 4 Ticket

April 16, 2020

Fellow racing fans, I hope this analysis finds you healthy and in good spirits. We are all on one team in this fight against COVID-19 and staying safe and socially distant is the best way for us to get back to ‘normal’ life, whether it is at the racetrack, rink or office.

Luckily, horse racing continues to provide a welcome distraction and a bit of normalcy in life. I commend the men and women working tirelessly at the tracks, training centers and farms to ensure the show is able to go on.

My target is this week’s Saturday Oaklawn Park Late Pick 4. Last Saturday’s soggy Late Pick 4 attracted an $852,512 pool and rewarded lucky bettors with a $26,935 payout if they were able to navigate the sequence and go 4-for-4.

The forecast for this Saturday, as of Thursday afternoon, is significantly drier, but I always recommend keeping an eye on real time weather conditions whenever possible, especially when playing multi-race bets.

Here’s my take on the Saturday Oaklawn Late Pick 4:

Race 8 (5:14PM ET) – Count Fleet Sprint Handicap (G3)

The opening leg of the Late Pick 4 is the G3 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap and I’m going to play some defense in order to get through the opener. #7 HIDDEN SCROLL (4/1) and #9 WHITMORE (5/2) are the favorites and I think many players will use only those two horses. While both are extremely talented, I’m going to also play #1 LEXITONIAN (30/1), #2 FLAGSTAFF (7/2), #5 WENDELL FONG (30/1), #6 MR. JAGERMEISTER (15/1) and #10 SHARE THE UPSIDE (10/1). If I can get a price horse home in the opening leg, I think I am sitting on a chance for a big payout.

Race 9 (5:45PM ET) – Allowance

I am taking a shot and singling #4 HEADLAND (10/1) in this race. I see ‘need the lead’ speed horses drawn in Posts 1, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10, so I forecast a quick pace. If Martin Garcia is able to rate HEADLAND off the early pace I think they have a huge chance. That's what's most key with her. She needs to sit off the pace. I repeat - THE JOCKEY HAS TO SIT OFF THE PACE. If HEADLAND is a part of the early pace, I'll be virtually ripping up my ticket before the quarter pole. This filly’s past winning efforts have come when she was able to sit back and make a run, so that is the approach I really hope they take on Saturday. Plus, in her last race, a decent third place finish, it looked like she may have been struck by the winner's whip down the lane. She loves Oaklawn (4-for-6 lifetime) and this race sets up from a come-from-behind type. With horses from better known barns like Brad Cox and Steve Asmussen in the field, I’m hoping to get 8/1 or higher on HEADLAND.

Race 10 (6:16PM ET) – Apple Blossom Handicap (G1)

A huge field of 14 has assembled for the G1 Apple Blossom and the scenario is even further muddled as three of the ‘big’ horses in here - #11 Serengeti Empress (4/1), #13 LADY APPLE (15/1) and #14 CE CE (7/2) have drawn outside. They will need to work out a trip. The post for Serengeti Empress, a true pacesetter, is concerning, especially with several other frontrunners drawn to her inside. I’m going to stick with CE CE and LADY APPLE despite their posts. CE CE was phenomenal in the G1 Beholder Mile at Santa Anita and LADY APPLE is a ‘must use’ on a fast track. Let’s also toss in #7 QUEEN NEKIA (20/1), an absolute bomb that will be running on late.

Race 11 (6:47PM ET) – Claiming

If Martin Garcia has a big day on Saturday, chances are I’m going to have a good day as well. Garcia is riding horses I like in the first two legs of the Pick 4 and is aboard one of the two horses I’m using in the nightcap. He rides #9 ZERO GRAVITY (12/1) in here and don’t let that 12/1 ML fool you – this horse has a shot. In his last race – his first on the dirt at Oaklawn – he was forced into making an early move behind a slow pace and he flattened at the finish. He should get much more pace this time around and as a one-run horse, he’ll need it. I’ll also use #4 EISENSTAEDT, who fits a similar mold and is making his second start off the layoff for Ron Moquett. He should be sharper this time around.

My Ticket

Race 8: 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10
Race 9: 4
Race 10: 7, 13, 14
Race 11: 4, 9

Ticket Cost: $42 for $1

Good luck and please stay safe out there!

Race 9: #12 Will Power, #4 Encore Boy, #2 Kings Shield, #1 Gunnison
Race 10: #2 Mighty Giant, #8 Juneau Park, #12 Triple Triple, #11 Sonic Fighter

Race 1: Waterloo Handicap (12:45AM ET)

#2 Joy Master receives a welcome step back to Class 5. His last run in this grade returned a win and with Zac Purton now taking over, he rates as the one to beat. #4 Liverbird Star won well three starts ago. He’s held his condition nicely and, in this grade, he is competitive, if he can offset the wide gate. #1 Hurricane Hunter mixes his form but appears to be another one who has returned to his mark. Joao Moreira retains the ride it’s just a question of how far back he will settle in the run because he can be his own worst enemy at times. #8 Supreme Plus has taken his time to acclimatise, but just might be ready to piece it all together now.

Race 2: Suffolk Handicap (1:15AM ET)

#10 California Legend struggled on the dirt last time out but a return to the turf here should spark sharp improvement. He’s a two-time winner already this season and from the good draw, with Karis Teetan aboard, he can dictate terms to suit and he might prove hard to reel in. #7 Full Power won well last start. Zac Purton jumps aboard and he appears to have a number of rating points still in hand. #2 Defining Moment is consistent. He has to contend with the wide gate though in his favour, is that he is likely to settle near the tail of the field, the concern is whether he gets a race run to suit as a fast tempo will favour him. #14 Plikclone is next best. He’s an ever-improving gelding from the David Hall yard who has ability and has shown that it’s only a matter of time before he does breakthrough.

Race 3: Somerset Handicap (1:45AM ET)

#14 Super Red Dragon is racing well having placed in his last three outings and gets in light here with only 116lb on his back. He’s shown he’s competitive in Class 4 and the soft gate should provide him with every chance. #6 This One’s For You loves the dirt as a course and distance winner already this term. Slight concern is how far back in the run he plans to get but with a race run to suit he can figure. #1 Jade Fortune returned to form last start at his first attempt in Class 4. He’s the class runner of the field and his best can’t be underestimated. #7 Strathclyde is next best, he just needs a fair bit to go his way as he is a tricky horse.

Race 4: Essex Handicap (2:15AM ET)

#5 Cantstopthefeeling has taken his time to acclimatise to life in Hong Kong but he has shown glimpses of ability. He scored nicely in a recent trial on the dirt and he just might be worth taking a chance on here, especially if he is a price. #14 Foodie Princess has gone from strength to strength this term, winning two out of his last three races. He has gate 13 to contend with here but does get in light with only 114lb on his back and championship leading jockey Joao Moreira up. #8 Clear Choice is another who relishes the surface. He rarely runs bad race and is favoured by the inside gate here which should allow him to do next to no work in transit. #4 Superich is going to do a lot of work from the wide ally but his beginning to hit a purple patch of form. He’s worth respecting, especially with Zac Purton up.

Race 5: Kent Handicap (3:05AM ET)

#1 Super Power Man surprised when making all last time out at 23/1. Though surprising, he was ultra-impressive and he appears capable of doing similar again. He’s drawn to get the right run for the in-form Chad Schofield who can ensure he finds the front early from gate two. #6 Excel Delight is looking to snap a streak of two runner-up efforts. He’s racing well and as a winner already this term he commands respect, especially with Joao Moreira up again. #9 General Trump is regularly underestimated. He’s won two of his last four including two other minor placings and this race looks well within his grasp. #12 Adonis is next best as a two-time winner this term. Only concern is that it will be his first run on the dirt this campaign.

Race 6: Norfolk Handicap (3:40AM ET)

#6 Telecom Rocket is racing in easily career-best form. He got off the mark four starts ago and since then has been racing well. He came from well back in the field last start to miss narrowly over this course and distance. #5 Heza Beauty has shown steady improvement across his three starts in Hong Kong. He can figure again with the right run from gate three under Joao Moreira. #4 Team Power is a talent on the rise with two placings from his first three starts in Hong Kong. He’s well-weighted here and has proven that he is up to this level. He warrants respect. #13 Eptiwins is a costly conveyance but at his second start for David Hall, he bears close watching.

Race 7: Cumberland Handicap (4:10AM ET)

#2 Handsome Bo Bo has placed in his last two outings, the latest with three-time champion jockey Zac Purton who hops up again. He’s found his mark and with further improvement here, he can go on with it. #4 Fantasy has hit the ground running since commencing his career in Hong Kong as a two-time winner from six attempts, including his latest. He remains in Class 3 which suits and the favourable draw should see him contest the finish. #9 Glenealy Generals has gone close on a number of occasion this season without winning. His consistent best warrants respect. #8 Grade One is looking for back-to-back wins. The awkward gate makes life difficult but on his day he should be thereabouts.

Race 8: Devon Handicap (4:40AM ET)

#9 Star Luck returns to the dirt where he is a two-time winner. He’s been a conundrum this season, mixing his form and the like but if he does manage to put his best foot forward on his preferred surface, then he is capable of taking this out. #2 Utopia Life scored an overdue win last time out and if he’s held his condition out of that run then he’s going to be thereabouts once again. He has some ability and the inside gate will allow him to showcase it. #1 Elite Patch loves the dirt. He steps back to Class 3 where he is a two-time winner and his best warrants respect, especially in this grade. #4 Just Not Listening was a three-time winner over this course and distance last season but has failed to get over the line this term. Still, he has those runs under his belt and the inside gate is to his favour.

Race 9: Cornwall Handicap (5:15AM ET)

#12 Will Power is a three-time winner on the dirt from four career starts and since his debut has enjoyed an astonishing 29-point rise in the ratings. He faces Class 2 here for the first time which makes things difficult, but he does get a key weight relief with only 118lb on his back and his latest trial suggests that he’s right on track for this assignment. #4 Encore Boy loves the course and distance as a two-time winner. This is a suitable contest and although he might be at the ceiling of his ability, he does get a nice draw and maps to get the dream run throughout. #2 Kings Shield appears somewhat of a dirt specialist. He ran a bold race last time out and if he can further improve off that he’s going to be in the thick of things, especially a strong record on the dirt (2: 1-1-0). #1 Gunnison hasn’t won since 2018. Still, he’s been racing out of his grade and a return to this course and distance should spark improvement.

Race 10: Dorset Handicap (5:50AM ET)

#2 Mighty Giant has enjoyed a rapid rise to success having won three out of his last four starts finishing second in the other. He won well at his Class 3 debut last start and three-time champion jockey Zac Purton also has an unblemished record aboard him. He can win again. #8 Juneau Park is looking for his third consecutive win. He’s another on the rise as a lightly raced galloper and he’s going to test Mighty Giant here. #12 Triple Triple mixes his form but has pieced together a number of nice runs. He gets in light and is capable of grabbing some prize money. #11 Sonic Fighter is next best.

Oaklawn Park Analysis & Suggested Pick 4 Plays

April 16, 2020 | By Johnny D

Selections For Saturday, April 18

Race 8--Count Fleet Sprint Handicap—Six Furlongs

1. Lexitonian Sisterson/Beschizza 30-1
Returns after roughly six months on the bench. He showed some decent efforts at 3 but needs to get better. Let’s see one first.

2. Flagstaff Sadler/Rosario 7/2
Overcame issues to show talent at 5 and has continued to be solid at 6. He should stalk the early speed in here and ought to have a chance to run them down. He fits for a potent trainer/jockey combination that hits at 31%. Trainer Sadler’s numbers, however, have not been strong when he’s shipping runners out of his home base of California for graded stakes races elsewhere. This gelding may be a bit better at seven furlongs than he is at three-quarters of a mile. Last out, he won the Gr. 2 San Carlos at Santa Anita and has worked a bullet since.

3. Hog Creek Hustle Foley/Van Dyke 15-1
This 4-year-old colt faced good ones at 3 and won the Grade 1 Woody Stephens at 7 furlongs. This year, he hasn’t distinguished himself in two starts. He doesn’t have any speed, so he’s got to circle the field and that’s an issue at six furlongs. He’s 0-for-4 at the distance.

4. Bobby’s Wicked One Stall/M.Mena 3-1
This guy is fast and sharp and that’s a dangerous combination. He won his last two races—ungraded stakes--by a total of more than 7 lengths. He hasn’t been out since January, so he’ll be sharp and ready to show all of his speed. He’ll take this bunch along for quite a while and maybe all the way.

5. Wendell Fong J.Englehart/Cohen 30-1
He had his moments at 3, winning 3 of his first 4 races. He was third, last out, in the Hot Springs behind #9 Whitmore. It wasn’t a bad effort, but he’ll still need to improve to close the gap between him and the favorite.

6. Mr. Jagermeister Lund/Thompson 15-1
This reliable 5-year-old horse has won 11 of 22 starts and 7 of 13 at the distance, with 4 seconds and 1 third. He’s got speed and will chase #4 Bobby’s Wicked One early. He comes out of the Hot Springs where he was second, less than 3 lengths behind #9 Whitmore. Difficult to ignore a horse with his credentials, speed and affinity for the distance and the track (3 starts, 1 win, 2 seconds).

7. Hidden Scroll Mott/M.Garcia 4-1
He’s the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde entry in this race, with two double-digit length wins and one double-digit length loss to his credit. Which Hidden Scroll is likely to show up Saturday? The guess here is that he’s not as good as his press clippings—he’s been a strong favorite in four of five lifetime starts with just one win as the choice. He’s best when he makes the lead by himself and that won’t happen in here.

8. Manny Wah Catalano/C.Hill 30-1
He’s won just three of 16 starts and would be a major surprise in the winner’s circle.

9. Whitmore Moquett/Talamo 5/2
To paraphrase: You don’t tug on superman’s cape. You don’t spit into the wind. You don’t pull the mask off that old lone ranger. And you don’t mess around with Whitmore at Oaklawn Park, especially at six furlongs. He’s won 8 of 13 at Oaklawn, with 4 seconds and 1 third. He’s also 11 for 20 at this distance, with 6 seconds and 2 thirds! This 7-year-old gelding is fit and comes off a dominating victory in the Hot Springs. It probably should be noted that Whitmore finished second to #10 Share the Upside in the King Cotton stakes when ‘Upside was able to dictate the early pace. That shouldn’t happen in here and Whitmore clearly is the one to beat.

10. Share the Upside Asmussen/Geroux 10-1
After upsetting heavily favored #9 Whitmore in the King Cotton, this 5-year-old gelding could only manage fifth—beaten more than 6 lengths—in Whitmore’s Hot Springs triumph. ‘Upside loves the Oaklawn track and is 4 for 11 at the distance. He’s an early speed type that might end up forcing the early pace with #4 Bobby’s Wicked One and possibly #6 Mr. Jagermeister and #7 Hidden Scroll. That situation ought to leave Whitmore licking his chops and ready to pounce just behind the leaders. Share the Upside could hang around for a slice like he did last year in this race when second to Whitmore.

11. Nitrous Asmussen/Santana 20-1
Like #10 Share the Upside, this 4-year-old colt hails from the powerful Steve Asmussen barn. Jockey Ricardo Santana moves his tack here from the next-door stablemate. When a barn’s top rider appears to have selected one mount over another, it often means something. Nitrous has no speed, is drawn widest of all and has been gone since September. He has had steady works for his return but the trainer doesn’t work them fast in the morning, so there are no bullets. If things get hot up front early in this race, look for Nitrous to be charging in the middle of the track. He could get a piece at a decent price.

Race 9--Allowance Optional Claiming—Six Furlongs

Contenders:
1. Shanghai Tariff (5/2)--Showed speed and tired in first race off layoff. Loves Oaklawn and distance. Steady type usually tries. Best of 45 for bullet 5/8 at Oaklawn since raced.
4. Headland (10-1)– 4-year-old filly needs to do a bit better but isn’t out of the question. Third to #8 Heavens Whisper last out. 4-for-6 at Oaklawn and 5-for-11 at distance.
5. Meadow Dance (4-1) –Steadily improved at 3 and makes first her start as a 4-year-old. She’s faced stakes foes in the past and could have room to improve. Trainer/jock combo 28% according to Thoro-Graph. She needs to go faster for top barn and just might in here.
6. Break Even (3-1) – Solid 3-year-old form with 6 consecutive wins. Poor race last out in first start at age 4 is a real concern. Top barn and jockey combine at 24%, according to Thoro-Graph stats.
8. Heavens Whisper (6-1) – Is a 12 for 26 pro and unbeaten in two wet-track starts since moving to Paul Holthus barn. Steps up, keeps Talamo as pilot.

Toss
#7 Honey’s Sox Appeal, #9 Mt. Brave, #10 Take Charge Angel, #11 Raintree Starlet, #12 Spring in the Wind

Race 10—Apple Blossom--One Mile and One-Sixteenth

1. Ollie’s Candy Sadler/Rosario 12-1
She hasn’t been quite the same since winning the Gr. 1 Clement Hirsch in August at Del Mar. Trainer Sadler has a weak record when shipping runners out of town for graded stakes races. With jockey Rosario, this 5-year-old mare will take some play and should enjoy a ground-saving trip just off the early pace, but we’ll pass on her until she regains her best form.

2. Coldwater Eurton/De La Cruz 50-1
This 5-year-old mare makes her first start for trainer Pete Eurton and she appears up against it in here.

3. Awe Emma Stewart/Lanerie 20-1
She’s a sterling 4-for-6 at Oaklawn and enters this off a solid allowance win. She’s 5-years-old now and would need to run better than ever to win this.

4. Come Dancing D.W.Lucas/Geroux 3-1
This 6-year-old mare has had a splendid career, earning over $1 million while winning multiple graded stakes. Those victories, however, came at shorter distances and, although she has won at this distance, she probably isn’t as potent around two turns. Hall-of-Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas takes over for previous conditioner Carlos Martin. Still, she may have seen better days at shorter distances.

5. Point of Honor Weaver/Van Dyke 10-1
This 4-year-old filly always tries. She’s been either first or second in 6 out of 7 starts, including a Gr. 2 Black-Eyed Susan victory and a Gr. Runner-up finish in the CCA Oaks and Alabama. She races from off the pace. Last out she managed second in a seven-furlong leg-stretcher after a 6-month layoff. She’s got upside at a price, particularly in the exotics.

6. Street Band L.Jones/S.Doyle 15-1
She made nice progress from two to three and surprised with a win in the Gr. 1 Cotillion at Parx in September. Those willing to back this 4-year-old filly must forgive an uninspiring performance last out in the Oaklawn slop. On her best days, she has a chance, but those efforts seem to be well-spaced out. Demand a generous price.

7. Queen Nekia S.Joseph/Cohen 20-1
Winner of 8 of 24 races, mostly at various starter allowance levels, she’d be a huge surprise as the winner in here.

8. Saracosa C.Contreras/M.Garcia 30-1
With just 2 wins in 15 starts, this 5-year-old mare seems up against it in here.

9. Horologist Baltas/T.Baze 15-1
In her third start for trainer Richard Baltas, Horologist lost a tough, close decision in the Nellie Morse at Laurel. Her claim to fame is that she reeled off four consecutive victories last spring/summer at Monmouth, including the Gr. 3 Monmouth Oaks. She was a well-beaten third in Street Band’s Cotillion at nearly 22-1. She has shown some ability and can’t be completely ignored.

10. Cookie Dough S.Joseph/A.Cedillo 10-1
Expect this 4-year-old filly to show speed. She’s drawn inside #11 Serengeti Empress and they are the swiftest in this bunch. How seriously they hound each other early will determine what happens late. ‘Dough is not as accomplished as ‘Empress, so it’s reasonable to expect her to crack first in their private pace battle. She won the Gr. 3 Royal Delta at Gulfstream last out and is Gr. 2 stakes placed.

11. Serengeti Empress Amoss/Talamo 4-1
This Grade 1 winning, 4-year-old filly is the one to beat. If successful here, she’ll become a multi-millionaire with 7 victories out of 15 starts. Her most important win came in last season’s Gr. 1 Kentucky Oaks. She’s never come from off the pace to win, so expect her to demand the early lead from Cookie Dough. Her dominating win last out in the Azeri over a sloppy track was the fastest race of her career, according to Beyer Speed Figures and her first tally since the Kentucky Oaks—nearly one year ago. She will be a short price and it should be noted that she’s lost races to two of her Apple Blossom foes before—#13 Lady Apple and #6 Street Band (twice). Can’t blame anyone looking elsewhere for a price.

12. Go Google Yourself McGee/BJHernandez 12-1
She’s an absolutely honest 5-year-old mare—7 wins and 5 seconds in 19 starts and off the board just four times—just twice in her last 12 races. She’s got 2 wins in as many starts over the Oaklawn surface and 4 wins out of 9 races at the distance, including never worse than third. She does her best work just off the early pace and that ought to be a perfect spot, just off Cookie Dough and Serengeti Empress. She should be a square price and, win or lose, will give you your money’s worth.

13. Lady Apple Asmussen/Santana 15-1
She’s a year younger than #12 Go Google Yourself and has a similar ‘always trying’ past performance sheet. She’s won 6 of 13 lifetime races—including 6 of her last 8--and is a multiple Gr. 3 stakes winner. Her Oaklawn Park resume is impressive—3 wins in 4 starts. She has a stalking style that should find her in a prime spot early. Her connections are solid—a 22% trainer/jockey combo. The biggest hole in this one is a poor performance in her last race—Gr. 2 Azeri at Oaklawn over a sloppy track. She finished fifth, beaten 20 lengths. She has a previous win over a sloppy track, but that was an Oaklawn maiden sprint. She also has a disastrous sloppy track route race at Saratoga on her resume. All things considered, despite her overall outstanding record, her poor last race and an outside post demand that players get a decent price before backing this filly.

14. Ce Ce M.McCarthy/V.Espinosa 7/2
The least experienced filly in the field with just 5 lifetime starts, this 4-year-old deserves a long look. She’s been highly regarded since breaking her maiden last April at Santa Anita. Next out, she was second in a fast race. Connections then asked her to take a huge leap, shipping to Belmont to contest the Gr. 1 Acorn in June. She finished fourth of nine and was gone until February when she returned to win an optional claimer. Next out she romped in the Gr. 1 Beholder Mile. There’s plenty of upside with this filly and if she can repeat her last, she’ll win. This is a ridiculously tough post to win from, but Ce Ce’s got enough speed to be within striking distance of the leaders early. She should be in the 3-1 range as a most interesting alternative to short-priced choices.

Race 11--Claiming $50,000–One Mile and One-Sixteenth
Contenders:
1. Timeline (4-1)—Races for tag first time for deadly Asmusses/Santana jockey combo that cracks at 22%, according to Daily Racing Form. Solid third last out in $62k Optional Claimer.
2. Kurlov (7/2)—Has some fight in him—9-for-26 overall and 2-for-3 at Oaklawn.
5. Degrom (6-1)—New face is 7-for-15 at distance against lesser.
8. Super Dude (6-1)—Has some speed and cuts back from a mile and one-eighth. 1-for-2 at Oaklawn and 3-for-4 at the distance.
9. Zero Gravity (12-1)—Cuts back in distance and makes first start for a tag. Has no early speed.
10. Matrooh (5-1)—10-year-old loves this track and recently won by 6 going a mile at this level.

Brian Nadeau's Daily Picks

Tampa Bay Downs - Race #1
Picks Notes
#2 Devileye Dropper didn't make a late dent in a stakes last time but now catches a group loaded with early speed to aid his stretch run, loves winning races (9-18), and will be a price; upset special.
#5 My Boy Lenny Stiff favorite may lap this field if he runs back to the huge figure win last time, and Bennett is 25% off the claim, but he could bounce, and there's a ton of speed to nag him; trying to beat.
#6 Over Icce Longshot cuts back off a distant 4th routing here when last seen in Dec., but the sprint run two-back was solid, and he's another who will love all the speed up front; exotics price appeal.
Race Summary Pace makes the race and there's a ton of it here, and that will really help the 2, while potentially hurting the 5, so play the pick in all the slots, and especially to kick off the early Pk5 as well, since budget players will be thin to the chalk, which means a win by the pick will knock out a ton of tickets right off the bat.

Tampa Bay Downs - Race #5
Picks Notes
#5 Total Tap The chalk found the class rise a bit too steep last time, though he ran well, but the two wins at the level in his prior starts were sharp, and today he meets a field that should have an energetic pace he can sit just off of; too tough for these.
#2 Pure Luck Stalker was a solid 3rd last time behind fellow rival Fox Run, who got loose and didn't stop, but the flow is different today, and this one drew perfectly and will be a square price on the board as well; eligible to make the faovorite work a bit.
#7 Endurning Honor Stretch runner was 2nd to My Cowboy last time, another in here and who just wired, so he's clearly going to like the different pace scenario today as well, though at 2-for-19 on turf he's tough to trust on top; limiting his use to underneath only.
Race Summary You certainly won't get rich on the 5 but $7 in this field seems fair, but you can really maximize his value in ending the early Pk5/Pk4, and kicking off the late Pk5 as well, since you can single him, which will allow for more coverage in the surrounding legs, as he looks to have this group at his mercy.

Tampa Bay Downs - Race #7
Picks Notes
#7 Big Dreaming Stidham firster (12%)is a Calabrese homebred by a BC Juvenile Fillies winner, goes for a barn having a banner meet, meets a solid field, but also one there for the taking, and has lenty of big works on display; thinking he's primed.
#5 Economic Policy Brown charge will be bet hard off the 2nd in his debut here, and obviously he figures, but note he's on the B-team, and if he was any great shakes he'd be with the A-team at GP, and you're getting a short price here too; second-best.
#4 Maroon Maniac Pace presser was a fast 2nd on debut for Thomas, who doesn't always have them cranked, so that was a big run, and he therefore hits hard, but the 10-1 is long gone, and you wonder if he regresses just a tad; scary, but not sold on.
Race Summary Tab the tote on the 7, as he should be live and taking money if ready, and if that's the case you can play him in all the slots, though you'll get some built-in value by using him in the late Pk5/Pk4, since he's bred to be a runner, and goes for one of the most underrated barns in the country as well.

Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Gulfstream Park - Race #12
Picks Notes
#1 Mohana Queen Gets some class relief for this one and showed enough pace in the debut run to suggest she can find the front from the inside.
#10 Honest Gal Should get a good go of things while tracking the top choice in the early stages, and I wonder if you can't get through this payoff leg with just these two?
#6 Upsy Daisy Do Form looks competitive, but she has already had 13 chances, so it's tough to get really enthused about her realistic chances of getting home on top today.
Race Summary Mohana Queen can flash some pace from the fence on this big drop and if she doesn't take too much heat in the early going, she might be tough to reel in.

Gulfstream Park - Race #3
Picks Notes
#3 Cat's Astray Nibbler isn't usually the kind I like to take at a short price, but I think she's going to be too fast for this bunch.
#6 Palace Two Step Forward player will get the jump on the top choice, but I'm still not sure her recent efforts are quite up to what it'd take to handle that one.
#2 Stated Needs to bounce back here, but something like the two-back effort probably keeps her in the mix for a big piece of this at a price.
Race Summary Cat's Astray and Palace Two Step look like the pair to beat, and though the latter has a pace edge, Cat's Astray owns the better recent form and figures to be a handful today.

Gulfstream Park - Race #5
Picks Notes
#5 Gray's Fable Has had some excuses in his turf tries and then went too fast early on the dirt last out. Thinking he's going to get a great run of things today.
#7 Ghostlore Made a nice middle move before flattening out in the comeback run, but I'm expecting something better with that race under his belt. He can win this.
#11 Holy Meister Looks like the one to beat, but he gets a much tougher post draw, and he's running a bit short on excuses for me considering he has been in a good striking spot in all five career starts, yet here he still is with maidens.
Race Summary Gray's Fable can get the right kind of run, and he has looked like he might be sitting on a breakout performance at some point soon. Guessing today's the day.

Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

Remington Park - Race #3
Picks Notes
#2 Buford T Lost a photo in a stakes race last time after an easy futurity trial win; takes on state-breds and should be difficult to pass.
#7 Ferarri B Won her debut and then was mid-pack in a futurity; a sharp break will put her in the mix.
#5 Best of You Was up in time for a maiden win and each of her two appearances have been good; can battle with these.
Race Summary Buford T comes off a narrow loss and has shown in two races that he has an abundance of talent; solid player.

Remington Park - Race #5
Picks Notes
#4 Bv Austin Burst clear in impressive fashion in his 2nd start and can repeat with a similar run.
#2 A Valiant Choice Rallied for 3rd in good trial and can improve in his 2nd start; would not be a surprise.
#5 B Cause Im a Hero Was up in time in a trial and while he wasn't fast enough to quality for the final is a key player here.
Race Summary Bv Austin gave a good indication of his talent last time as he was the easiest of winners; was just below the qualifying line but the feeling here is that he'll soon be with the top 2-year-olds again.

Remington Park - Race #7
Picks Notes
#7 Curls Happy Wagon Was dominant in her Decketta Stakes win and lost a photo in this race last year; has won half of her 14 career starts seems to do her best at this 350-yard distance.
#5 First N Sassy Held 2nd to Curls Happy Wagon in the Decketta and this five-time winner can be a force with her best effort.
#8 Pj Splash of Joy Won two of her last three in 2019 and is capable of making a serious run in her 1st off the bench; mixed it up with some top 3-year-olds last year.
Race Summary Curls Happy Wagon always gives a good effort over the Remington Park strip and will likely be too much for her opponents today; she's at her best distance and with a clean trip can prevail.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 4 BV AUSTIN 5/2

# 10 HIGH VALUE OF RETURN 5/1

# 6 DF FABULOUS MAIDEN 15/1

BV AUSTIN could be the bet in here. Valenzuela will probably be able to get this gelding to break out early for this event. Could beat this group given the 76 speed figure garnered in his last outing. Has been running very well and has among the top speed in the race for today's distance. HIGH VALUE OF RETURN - Has some positive angles which make this horse a play. DF FABULOUS MAIDEN - This horse has a wonderful win percent in shorts.

The Walker Group Picks

# 8 LIGHTEM UP LUCY 3/1

# 4 VANESSUKY 6/1

# 2 DASHING IS EASY 8/1

I've got to go with LIGHTEM UP LUCY. Looks strong to be close to the front end at the first call. Has very good Equibase Speed Figs and has to be considered for a bet for this event. Is difficult not to consider given the company run in as of late. VANESSUKY - Has very good Equibase speed figs and has to be considered for a wager in here. Andrade has been on fire the last month, winning at a nifty 18 percent rate. DASHING IS EASY - She has respectable class ratings, averaging 75, and has to be given a shot for this event. Odell has one of the best winning percentages in this group with entries running at this distance and surface.

Gulfstream Park - Race #10 - Post: 5:25pm - SO - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $33,000 Class Rating: 88

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#7 CAUSALISTIC (ML=6/1)
#5 DYNADRIVE (ML=5/1)
#6 PLATO (ML=8/1)
#8 PERFECT REVENGE (ML=3/1)

CAUSALISTIC - This colt has higher odds on the morning line than the other entrant from the stable of Maker. Better watch out for this angle. This colt notched a nice rating of 88 in his last race. That speed fig should be good enough to triumph this time out. DYNADRIVE - I like to see consistency in a racehorse. Look at this gelding's PPs. Almost always in the money. Taking a trip to a lower class rank; has the class ability to make his presence felt. PLATO - The rider/conditioner duet of Jaramillo and Alvarado has a strong ROI together. I cannot ignore the fact that this colt is working extremely well. The 88 last race speed rating looks good on paper. Three consecutive improved speed figs (60-62-88) make this animal a solid contender. PERFECT REVENGE - The race may set up nicely for this colt's late rally.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 BLOOD MOON (ML=7/2), #4 GEMO (ML=9/2), #1 LIKE YOU (ML=8/1),

BLOOD MOON - The fig in the last race doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the class rating of today's race. Mark this thoroughbred as a questionable challenger. GEMO - Ran somewhat erratically last time around the track on Mar 11th at Gulfstream Park. LIKE YOU - This gelding almost certainly won't be right there at the wire.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Have to go with #7 CAUSALISTIC on the win end if we get at least 5/1 odds

#1 DRILL BIT (ML=7/2)
#3 TRAP (ML=12/1)

DRILL BIT - Really have to believe this horse is going to be close at the wire. TRAP - This colt is the longer price of the 'split' entry from the barn of Machado. Just look at his most recent speed fig, 67. That one fits well in this field. Horse has improved at least two speed figure points in last 2 races. I look for that positive trend to continue in this event. I like a runner that makes a good late run in a sprint race and comes back in a route.

Vulnerable Contenders: #10 FULL MOON RISING (ML=4/1), #8 CAPTAINONTHEROCKS (ML=9/2), #6 TRINNI ALEX (ML=5/1),

FULL MOON RISING - Hasn't been close at all of late. CAPTAINONTHEROCKS - Didn't land in the top three on Mar 13th at Fair Grounds. Followed it up with another less than stellar try. Doubtful that the fig he recorded on April 11th will be enough in this event.
