Preakness 135 Odds – Aikenite 18-1 to Win in 2010
The largely inexperienced Aikenite will battle a tough field at Pimlico Race Course this Saturday, when he competes in the 2010 Preakness Stakes.
Race History
Since winning at Saratoga Race Course in a maiden race last August, Aikenite has gone winless in his last seven starts. He did finish second in the Grade III Derby Trial on April 24, but finished a disappointing 8th at the G1 Blue Grass on April 10. He showed promise at the G2 Fountain of Youth on February 20, but finished third behind early Kentucky Derby favorite Eskendereya and fellow Preakness contender Jackson Bend.
Opening Odds
Aikenite has opened as an 18/1 long shot to win the 135th running of the Preakness Stakes, according to oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com. Other contenders will similar odds are Caracortado (18/1) and Pleasant Prince (15/1).
Early Analysis
Aikenite earned a sharp prep three weeks out by finishing third at the Derby Trial, but he’s a horse that stalks the pace and only has four starts this year. He also lacks a stakes win his career and has a best Beyer of just 96, meaning he has his work cut out for him this Saturday. Still, he should be fresh seeing as how he didn’t compete at the Kentucky Derby.
