Preakness 135 Odds – Caracortado Has 18-1 Opening Odds to Win

Race History

Caracortado failed to finish in the money at his latest race, which was in the G1 Santa Anita Derby on February 3. He finished fourth behind Kentucky Derby contenders Sidney’s Candy (who won the race) and fellow Preakness contender Looking at Lucky, who finished third. Caracortado did finish third at the G2 San Felipe on March 13 and won his previous race at the G2 Robert B. Lewis on February 13.

Opening Odds

According to oddsmakers at online sports book Sports Interaction, Caracortado is an 18/1 long shot to win the 135th running of the Preakness Stakes this Saturday. His odds match that of Aikenite, while Pleasant Prince (15/1) and Jackson Bend (20/1) have similar odds.

Early Analysis

Caracortado did not draw into the Kentucky Derby after he finished fourth in the Santa Anita Derby. He was beaten by 7 ¼ lengths in that race, so he’s coming off a poor prep and a six-week layoff. Considering his best Beyer of 98, things aren’t looking particularly great for Caracortado at this year’s Preakness. That said, he does have a stakes win at the G2 California Breeders’ Championship and at the G3 Robert B. Lewis. Still, he only has three starts this year and much like Aikenite, he stalks the pace and lacks Professional points.
