Presidents Cup Odds To Win – United States Team Favored

The 2009 Presidents Cup is set to tee off this week, beginning Thursday, Oct. 8 from Harding Park Golf Course in San Francisco, Cal.

The U.S. team of 12 golfers will face an International team of 12 players for the event, which is similar to the Ryder Cup. The International team will be composed of any non-U.S. and non-European golfers that qualified.

The U.S. team enters the event as a 4/11 favorite to win according to the online sports book SBGGLOBAL. The U.S. has won five of the seven previous Presidents Cups and tied on one occasion. The lone loss came in 1998 in Royal Melbourne, Austrailia.

The United States is captained by Fred Couples and features a roster of Tiger Woods, Steve Stricker, Heath Slocum, Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuchar, Jim Furyk, Sean O’Hair, Scott Verplank, Ryan Moore, Jason Dufner, Lucas Glover, and Hunter Mahan. Glover and Mahan were captain’s picks by Couples.

The International team is captained by Greg Norman and has a roster of Geoff Ogilvy, Vijay Singh, Camilo Villegas, Retief Goosen, Ernie Els, Angel Cabrera, Y.E. Yang, Mike Weir, Robert Allenby, Tim Clark, Adam Scott, and Ryo Ishikawa.
