In the Ryder Cup, each individual player has the opportunity to win a maximum of 5 points and that is only if they play during all five portions of the competition. A player can earn a point by winning any of the four team events and also a point in the individual match play on Sunday.

It is not clear how U.S. captain Corey Pavin will use Mickelson. He plays in most all matches, but did get benched in the 2008 event. Mickelson is likely to have a chance to score 5 points, but it is unclear who he will be paired up with in team events.
