BMW Championship Picks
LEMONT, IL (TheSpread) – The 2011 BMW Championship gets started on Thursday and we have a few suggested plays for this tournament.
My pick to win the event this weekend is Jason Day. According to oddsmakers, Day has 15/1 odds to win this 70-man tournament. Day has finished in the top 5 in four of his last eight tournaments and finished 13th or better in two of his last three events. Day is having one of the top years of any golfer, as he is now up to seventh in the world rankings. I like his steady play and feel he has a chance to win come Sunday.
In terms of matchups, I like Jim Furyk (-115) over Phil Mickelson (-115). Furyk has had a rough 2011, but he has been playing well as of late, finishing in the top 10 in two of his last three events. He also has performed well at this tournament, placing 15th last year. Mickelson has not been real steady this year, but coming off a 10th-place finish two weeks ago. It was one of just six top 10’s he has had on the year. Mickelson has seemingly been really good or really bad this year. After a good showing, I expect a fall back, which will allow Furyk to get the best of him.
Another matchup I like is Steve Stricker (-115) over Dustin Johnson (-115). Johnson is the defending champion of this event but he has struggled to be consistent on tour. He won the Barclays but that was his lone top 40 in his last four tournaments. Johnson has four missed cuts on the year. Stricker is coming off one of his worst performances of the year at the Deutsche Bank Championship, but he has bounced back well from bad showings. He still had a string of 12-straight top 25’s prior to two weeks ago.
