Chevron World Challenge Picks
THOUSAND OAKS, CA (TheSpread) – The 2011 Chevron World Challenge gets started on Thursday morning and we have some suggested play for this 18-man tournament.
My pick to win the event this weekend is Tiger Woods. According to oddsmakers, Woods has 11/4 odds to win the tournament. Despite the fact that he hasn’t won since 2009, he is making a lot of strides right now. He placed third at the Australian Open and overcame a slow start in the Presidents Cup to have a strong showing in the four-day event. Woods seems prime to get a win, and he has already won this small event four times.
In terms of matchups, I like Jason Day (-115) over Matt Kuchar (-115). Day is riding a nice streak of top 10’s as he has finished in the top 10 in his last three events and in four of his last five. He has 12 top 10’s on the year. Kuchar is actually coming off a missed cut in the Australian Open and hasn’t placed in the top 10 of his last five tournaments. Kuchar hasn’t had a strong end to 2011 while Day has been much more competitive.
Another matchup I like is Bubba Watson (-115) over Keegan Bradley (-115). Bradley hasn’t been too bad since winning the PGA Championship, but he also hasn’t cracked the top 10 since. He has three top 20’s and two missed cuts in his last five tournament and in a field that is small and quite competitive, I don’t see him doing so well. Watson hasn’t been stellar in his own right, but he has finished in the top 25 in four of his last five and has just one missed cut in his last 10 tournaments. Watson has been on the big stage and found success and I expect him to be closer to the top of the leader board than Bradley.
