Simpson wins in a playoff
NORTON, MA (TheSpread) – Webb Simpson found his way to another championship as he won the 2011 Deutsche Bank championship in a playoff on Monday.
Simpson shot a 6-under 65 on Monday to get to -15 for the tournament. That put him in a tie with Chez Reavie. Reavie shot a 5-under 66 on Monday. The two were still even after the first playoff hole, but Simpson got the win on the second playoff hole to claim his second win in three weeks.
According to oddsmakers, Simpson had 28/1 odds to win the tournament, so a $100 wager on Simpson will pay out an additional $2,800.
Simpson and Reavie finished two shots head of Jason Day, Luke Donald, and Brandt Snedeker, as all three of them ended the tournament -13 overall.
Simpson now leads the FedEx Cup Standings by 897 points over last week’s winner, Dustin Johnson. Two events remain in the FedEx Cup playoffs, including the BMW Championship, which starts on Sept. 15. The top 70 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings will compete in that tournament.
