Frys.com Open Picks
SAN MARTIN, CA (TheSpread) – The 2011 Frys.com Open gets started on Thursday and we have a few suggested plays for this tournament.
My pick to win the event this weekend is Tiger Woods. According to oddsmakers, Woods has 7/1 odds to win the golf tournament. I know picking Woods is tricky since he hasn’t played well in quite some time, but he chose this tournament for a reason. The field is not real strong for one, and he has had some success in rounds leading up to the tournament. Woods will be looking to have a strong showing as this is one of his final tournaments this year.
In terms of matchups, I like Spencer Levin (-125) vs. Kevin Na (-105). Na is coming off a win last week, but he had missed his previous two cuts. Coming off that win, I expect a dip in his play, which will see him on the back half of the field. Levin has been more consistent, missing just one cut in his last 11 tournaments. In that span he also has four top-20’s. Look for him to be in the hunt this weekend and finish ahead of Na.
Another matchup I like is Tommy Gainey (+100) vs. Bryce Molder (-130). Gainey had a bit of a rough stretch in the middle of this year, but he has finished third in two of his last five tournaments. He is a bit hit-and-miss, but I like his standing in this field. Molder is also hit-and-miss, but costing more on the risk. He fell to Gainey last week and has missed 11 cuts on the year.
