Molder wins first event in playoff
SAN MARTIN, CA (TheSpread) – It took six extra holes, but Bryce Molder earned his first PGA Tour win on Sunday as he beat Briny Baird in a playoff to win the Frys.com Open.
Molder shot a 7-under 64 on Sunday to finish the tournament at 17-under par. Baird shot a 4-under 67 on Sunday to force the playoff. The two remained tied through five playoff holes, but Molder got the one-shot win on the sixth and final playoff hole to win his first PGA event in 132 tries.
Molder had odds of 35/1 to win the tournament coming into the event, so a $100 wager on Molder will pay out an additional $3,500.
Molder and Baird finished two shots ahead of long shot Bud Cauley, who finished at -15 for the tournament after shooting a 5-under 66 on Sunday. Ernie Els ended up tied for fourth at -14 overall after shooting a 3-under 68 on Sunday.
