WHITE SULPHUR SPRING, WV (TheSpread) – The Greenbrier Classic is in just its second year of play and this year, a big name is favored to win the PGA Tour event.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog, Phil Mickelson is the favorite to win this week’s tournament with 9/1 odds. Other shorts odds to win are Sergio Garcia (16/1), Webb Simpson (20/1), and Charles Howell III (20/1).

Mickelson didn’t play in this event last year, but he is the highest-ranking golfer in the event. Mickelson sits sixth in the world rankings as he is coming off a runner-up finish in the British Open. Mickelson has failed to miss a cut this season.

Garcia finished 60^th in this event last year but is coming off three-straight top 10 finishes, including a ninth-place finish in the British Open.

Simpson missed the cut in this event last year, but he is currently on a string of five-straight top-20 finishes. He has missed just two cuts and has five top 10’s.

Howell finished ninth in this tournament last year and he has had a nice string as of late, finishing in the top 20 in four of his last six events. Howell has finished in the top 10 in five events this year.

The 2011 Greenbrier Classic is played at The Old White Course in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia and will run from Thursday July 28 through Sunday, July 31.
