Bryron Nelson Championship Picks
IRVING, TX (TheSpread) – The 2011 HP Byron Nelson Championship tees off on Thursday and we have a few selected plays for the golf tournament.
My pick to win the event this weekend is Rory Sabbatini. According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook SBGGLOBAL.com, Sabbatini has 20/1 odds to win the tournament. Sabbatini has finished 26th or better in his last three tournaments, including a third-place finish at the Wells Fargo Championship. Sabbatini played in this tournament last year and finished tied for 43rd.
In terms of matchups, I like Dustin Johnson (+110) over Matt Kuchar (-160). Johnson has struggled as of late, but he is a streaky player and due for an upswing. He finished seventh in this event a year ago, and he has had a patter of missing a cut, finishing in the top 50’s, and then a top 10 this year. Well, he missed the cut two events ago and placed 57th in his last outing, which mean’s he’s set for a strong performance this week. Kuchar is pretty consistent, but he hasn’t been really contending for victories. His last four events have seen him outside of the top 15, so Johnson just needs to contend to win this matchup.
Another matchup I like is K.J. Choi (-110) over Nick Watney (-140). Choi has really been in a zone as of late as he has finished eighth or better in his last four tournaments in America. Watney had a strong start to the year, but he has been a little less consistent as of late. His fourth-place finish at the Players Championship was his first top 10 in five events.
